Jer309GTi 3 Posted January 12, 2007 Has anyone else suffered with rust on their 405's? I know Kris posted up a while back about his rusty sill, hidden by the side skirt On mine the front crossmember (that the radiator sits on) is shot, and the n/s/r chassis leg is starting to crumble. The rust in mine was accelerated by the fact it was stored in a damp garage, but the state of the front crossmember must mean it was already rusty. The innner wing plastic cover seems to have trapped a lot of mud and crap and thats what has rusted it
KRISKARRERA 2 1 Cars Posted January 13, 2007 Yeah the sideskirts are nasty things, they hold mud and moisture and kill the sills. Every car I've ever had I choose a dry spell in the summer and power-wash everywhere and paint it with waxoyl or whatever once it's dried. Luckily for me Miles appeared to have coated alot of my car in something. I guess you need to work out if the bugger needs welding. Personally I use the tight-arse method of removing all rust and painting it and then waiting til MOT time to see what they say. Great thing about the 405 is rust is usually hidden, whereas if we had say Sierras or Cavaliers the bloody wheelarches would have been replaced 10 times by now lol.
