Mi16x4 Radiator

Recommended Posts

The radiator in my Mi16x4 is leaking and I'm searching for a replacement.

I spoke to a local radiator specialist today. He didn't have a listing for a radiator with the standard 45mm thick core and thought that was overkill and a thinner core would be okay. 28 mm and 36mm cores seems to be the sizes available with the correct clamp hose attachments.

His comments were that the there is not a lot of cooling gained in the increase from 36mm to 45mm as the air passing through the radiator quickly increases in temperature to the point it is not taking any more heat from the core, and that modern replacement radiators have more efficient cores through better tube design so achieving the same cooling with less core thickness.

He even offered a trial period and money back if the thinner core wasn't satisfactory.

The comments my be generally correct but I'm sceptical of going to a thinner core.

Is anyone using a thinner than standard core radiator? Any views on whether this would be okay?

Many thanks.

Tony

I'd take him up on his offer. Does it get hot in NZ?
