Taking The Car To Autotechnics

Recommended Posts

Guest elmitchio

theres a company near me called autotechnics in gillingham dorset. they specialise in tuning up cars etc. i hav a 1992 mi16, and the thing just seems a little slow, do u think it would be worth gettin it rolling road tuned to get it set up rite?? or is there a better way/??

cheers

I'm far from being an expert but I'd say don't bother because there's nothing they can adjust on the Mi16. Getting a power run is a good idea though to see how close you are to 160bhp and if you are down on power perhaps the engine could do with a rebuild. Then again, it might just be that some sensor has seen better days, such as the air flow meter. Also when were the spark plugs / ht leads / dizzy cap / air filter / fuel filter and so on last replaced?

Is it a 1.9 or 2 litre?

quite a while ago, you reckon that'd make a difference then? your prob rite, i always thought it would be a little pointless taking it there unless you've got a turbo car they can tune up or sumin

theres proberbly nothing wrong with your engine.

you've got a heavy ice install which will make the car feel slow. which i bet if you took all the ice out that car will be fast again.

Air Flow Meter, idle speed control valve, throttle dwitch, air leaks etc can be places to check. Wish you were a bit nearer lol. Is the idle dodgy all the time or just when hot?

its dodgy when youfirst start it up, all over the place! and we went to that car meet thing at fleet services the other night and there was a 205 mi up there, and it sounded amazing! not ragged or anything, and it pulled away and gave me the shivvers! i want mine to sound like that lol! think my exhaust is too loud, need to put another silence box in the middle somewhere.

well its got a k&n air filter, and thats about it to be honest. its a pretty standard engine, but im sure it shouldnt sound like that, does yours sound really smooth or are these engines just not that smooth to start with??

The easiest way to add power to mi16 is to raise the fuel pressure.. It's very lean on the high end for some reason, I even managed to melt a piston with adjustable pulleys and some minor head mods.. As standard, most healthy 1,9 mi16 give about 155hp. After 100k miles even 150hp is a good figure.
