Tachymetric Relay Testing & Operation

Recommended Posts

nickaliath

Hello all,

Need to test my Tachymetric relay.

The fuel pump doesnt operate on ignition on and trying to turn over.

When tachymetric relay is open up and manually click shut the coil inside it the fuel pump operates.

So this eliminates fuel pump.

Any ideas

Surely it should prime when only ignition on. Or does it only pump when turning over and running?

Would a ignition module cause the issue?

Hi it should prime on the pre ignition turn on the key, i had same issue it turned out to be the ignition amp, they can cause many issues, try and get a bosch one instead of an intermotor one as these are much better and more reliable

Funnily enough i bought a ignition module today (FACET Brand), Fingers crossed this will solve it.

Ive tried two tachy relays both untested before hand but neither worked.

Ill try this module when i get home and report

Right still no joy after fitting new tachy relay and ignition module!!!!

Its really weird this is what im getting at the tachy plug.

Ignition on

- 30 Constant Live

- 15 live on ignition

- 1 live on ignition

- 31 0.00 resistance to earth

- 50 0.02 resistance to earth

- 87b 0.006 resistance to earth

- 87 0.00 resistance to earth

Ignition off

- 30 constant live

- 15 0.00 resistance to earth

- 1 0.00 resistance to earth

- 31 0.00 resistance to earth

- 50 0.00 resistance to earth

- 87b 0.06 resistance to earth

- 87 0.00 resistance to earth

All above with plug disconnected.

Im beginning to think the wiring loom i brought off another person might be the issue?? or maybe where i had to rejoin the two brown multiplugs????

Cant turn it over yet as havent got oil in the engine at the moment. Will get oil in tomorow and try.

It should still prime the fuel system though regardless of spark???.

didnt get chance to check spark as battery didnt have enough power to turn over engine.

Disconnected switch lead for starter motor, and turn key to sart position and fuel pumped out all over the place??!!!

When i connected the switch lead back up it didnt have enough power to turn engine over just clunked and the fuel didnt pump out. Im pressuming this is because the starter was drawing all the power away from anything else.

Its still seems weird to me that it doesnt prime the fuel system, Is it normal for it to not prime on some GTI's?

Sorted Now :) Didnt have a wire joined up at the multi plugs.

Got spark and fuel, It fied up for a second. scarred the crap out of me as i had my head hanging over the engine and wasnt expecting it. LOL (with no exhaust system fitted)

its been a bit of a pain in the butt, as didnt have the two brown multiplugs on loom when bought it and had a lot of wiring ends missing.
