What Is This Sensor?

Recommended Posts

Was digging around the underside of the engine and came across this sensor beside the dipstick. What is it? I couldn't find a plug for it anywhere. Car is 1992 1.9 gti.

Do any of these plug into it? If not what are they for? They are just cable tied to the bulkhead.

looks to be the rarely functioning oil level sensor, quite rare on the 205's, no idea what the spade connectors are, the green 2 pin IIRC would be a Motronic diagnostic plug.

disused oil level sensor, has you engine ever been changed because they weren't fitted for long.

Green two pin plug is the diag sockwet but of very limited use imo.

Not sure about the other wires but one looks to be a possible earth (green or green & yellow? ).

Is the brake m/c cap level switch plugged in>? That would account for two of them.

Engine hasn't been changed to my knowledge but ive only had the car for 3 years so god knows what happened in her previous life.

Im probably showing my limited knowledge here, but if that is for the oil level, why do the 2 oil gauges on my dash still work lol? I know one is oil pressure but i always get them mixed up  dont think a seperate oil level switch has been wired in?

Yeah, master cylinder bottle is plugged in. Them spare connectors are obviously not needed. Just wondered why they always hung there lol.

The two gauges are oil pressure (sensor on front of block near alternator) and oil temperature (sensor on sump)

Oil level is common on 306's, 405's etc but 205 dash doesn't generally have the functionality to support it, hence it's not wired in.
