1.6Gti Idle Problems

Recommended Posts

GTIAndy

Hi recently had my car set up on a rolling road, mixture set, timing etc and it is producing a very respectable 80 bhp at the wheels. Which I think is very good for a 26 year old car with a 120000 mile original engine (well done Peugeot). The tickover has never been great on my car and it still varies between 1000 and 1500 RPM, but what is occurring now is if an electrical load is turned on ie dipped headlights or the cooling fan the engine stalls at junctions etc. I have swapped the battery with one from my wife's car and it remains the same. Have also checked that the alternator is charging and it is lifting the battery to 14.5 volts when running. Any ideas?

Thanks Andy

I had exactly this issue - I advanced the timing a touch and it's fine now.

You might also want to give it all a good clean and check for air leaks (breathers, throttle body, etc.)
