Shaft Release Fork Or Ball Pin Release Fork?

Recommended Posts

Morning all

I'm about to order a new clutch for my 1990 1.9 Gti but have no idea which clutch I need (I'm not mechanically minded), could someone please let me know - thanks!

Which gearbox do you have? be1 or be3? Be1 would be ball pin release fork, be3 would be shaft release fork i'd imagine.

BTW - If you don't know how to tell which box you have, BE1's have reverse next to first, BE3's have reverse below fifth.

1990 should have a BE3 box.

have a look, if you have an arm on the top of the bellhousing pointing to the left hand side of the car its BE3, if it has one poking out of the front its a BE1.

Reverse gear is below 5th - I take it then it's BE3 and the shaft release fork.

Thanks all.
