Gti 2.0 Turbo Project

Recommended Posts

Hi, my name is ian, i have just purchased my first ever french car! I've always been a Golf GTI type of chap until now but i always thought the 205's were kinda cool, I bought my first pug of a guy i work with for the knockdown price of £200, When he first told me about the car i expected it to be a complete nail and not worth looking at for the price, so i ignored it and didn't bother going to see it, the story goes that he had the car a couple of years ago but it kept popping driveshafts, the engine was out of a 406 and he beleives it to be kicking out somewhere in the reigon of 200bhp, his parents are fed up with it on the driveway since he moved out and bought a bike, i took his brother home one night, saw the car and it is in fantastic shape! Bought it on the spot!

Anyhoo to make a long story even longer... I know nothing of peugeot, i have good mechanical knowledge, i canbreak a mk2 golf down to every conceivable part and put it back together again, but i need some education before i start, pics will follow at the weekend but until then, please? and education

looking forward to the fun and games!

Ian

Good another local, good luck with the conversion. Im gathering parts to put a 2.0 turbo in my 309 so were probably going to have similar battles.

Right, had a good poke around it today, got lots of photos,

It's definatly a bit of a project, the bodywork isnt the best but still rescue-able, think i just caught the floorpan in time, theres 2 tiny patches in the boot floor about the size of a 5p peice and the O/S/F jacking point wants re-constructing,

this is the worst on the outside

Inside is alright, the alarm code switchboard has been bypassed, would be nice to get that working again but have no idea how to retrieve the code and the drivers bolster is pretty fubar'd

<p> </p>

<p>Engine wise, everything seems to be in order except for a water leak coming from the radiator and the drivers side driveshaft is missing,</p>

<p> </p>

<p>Comes with 5 speedlines and this center exhaust, not my cup of tea tho, rear lights are pretty horrible too! Really excited about this! Trying to sell my golf at the moment to pay for bodywork! Priority is welding and rust proofing at this stage! </p>

I've not seen a brake compensator like that on a 205 before. Wonder if anyone else has?

Doesn't look to bad condition wise though, I agree with you about the rear lights.

Right, from what i've read the engine should be 140bhp standard yes? So i'm guessing from what i've seen that the 200bhp estimate that my freind gave me is probably a little optamistic, i would guess closer to 180 not knowing whats inside the engine, any idea on how i find out what gearbox is on it? i've read that the 1.9 gti gearbox is the one i need to stop driveshafts from popping out. Any help or advise would be most appreciated, as would any useful links to this engine or specialists!

Ta! Ian

A mate of mine who's not on here ( :o ) is running 190bhp out of his, it's not got anything done to it other than up'ing the boost to the 1 bar possible on standard management and putting a stainless system on it. The 200 you've been told may not be as far off as you think??

found the problem, it's on the 1.6 gti hubs, it seems i have to swap them for 1.9 hubs, so driveshaft issue sorted, bodywork next, potentrialy sold my golf so project Tomys my first rally car is GO! GO! GO!
