1.9 Engine Bay - Whats This?

Recommended Posts

Spent some time on the 205 today and found this tucked behind the coolant tank, comes up from the rear of the engine and has touched the manifold at some point which explains its condition..... but whats it for?? All temp, oil gauges and lights work so i'm at a loss.

Is it not the TDC cable for the diagnostic machine? Should go along rocker cover and be held by clips that attach onto the bolts that hold the rocker cover on with the plug not connected to anything.

It was to set the ignition timing, On carb 405,s with XU engines the timing mark to set up the ignition timing with a strobe gun is at the front of the gearbox and can be easily seen.

The GTI due to all the air pipes and airflow meter means the timing marks can't be seen so the old Peugeot diagnostic machine used this TDC sensor and then gave a display of what the ignition timing was and so could be ajusted.
