starters been a pain in the backside since fitting a new one when i done the head gasket, The bolt on the pully was megga tight i dont know but i wonder if you can confirm but i have a feelling i may have moved the fly wheel upwards, like towards the starter gear causing it to mesh when ingaging :blink: when i was jamming a tool in the fly wheel to lock it whilst trying to get the bolt off.

Wouldn't have thought so, there's still plenty of 'meat' left on the ring gear teeth. What's the starter motor like as that's bound to have come off worse! Don't think the fly has moved as that would mean the crank has moved also.

the starter is brand new and it still looks brand new not a mark on the teeth at all, just the flywheel. If theres no way the flywheel can move closer to the starter gear, i dont know whats going on. Both the starter and g/box mounting faces are cleen, the dowls in, its all tight and staright, if i slacken the three bolts there no real noticable movement to sugest the starters sitting to close. :(

You can still get the ring gear new from Peugeot and change it if you really want, as I got one.a few months back, but a decent second hand flywheel may be cheaper.

You can just turn the ring gear around if you really want to.

oh ok thanks, i didnt realise you could change it around, i know nothing on fly wheels. so if thats posible, could it have moved some way so its not the wheel properly?? is it worth getting a dial test indicator, and turning the engine over by hand to see if it sitting correctly on the wheel? i dont know if its possible or not to have moved a little, something is seriously wrong somwhere
