Stick a magnet on on the block and that will tell you if it's a iron block. XS was 85hp ali block solex, rallye was 75hp iron block solex.

You're a very lucky guy Ryan! These engines are fairly sort after and great little motors.

Its a TU3s 1360cc engine with a twin stage solex Z2.

Did you get the g/box with it?

I'm not sure about external identification, but when you put it in the car if its really short and low geared its a cracking box. I had a XS last winter whilst working on the Rallye, bloody loved it.

great engines! I took one out of my car to put an Mi in but don't have the heart to sell it...

Starting to get very bad thoughts of mini clubman vans, and turbos...

Hold on - Are you sure its a TU3S? the 1g in the number you worte about would suggest (the block at any rate) that its a TU3A, which is the normal 1.4 used from 1988 onwards... :) These also had Solex carbs, but not the double choke Z2 type, just a boggo standard single choke affair.

if it has a carb on it, look down into it. with the air filter off obviously, has it a round single opening or an oval double barrel opening ?

the double is a twin choke solex meaning it could be an xs 85 bhp engine (it should also have tu3s cast into the cylinderhead between the exhaust manifold and timing belt)

if its got the single choke carb and alloy block it could be 1000cc 1100cc or 1360cc out of a citroen ax , pug 205 , or early 106

good luck !

I seem to remember there being '3S' stamped on the head somewhere too, think it's near either the inlet or exhaust mani? usually covered in grime though!

and yes cracking engines!

edit: oops too slow again!
