Coolant Hoses Are They Different?

I have split the bottom hose on the GTI (started changing wist it was 0C outside, not ideal), the one that goes from the back of the engine where the heater hoses join and around to the metal pipe by the crank pulley. I have a spare hose but it doesn't seem to fit, are they different diameter of hose depending on if its a plastic or metal coolant block? As I have a feeling there might be but cant see them on service box.

Correct. The alloy housing uses a larger hose than the plastic housing.
