1.9 16V Big End Bearings

Recommended Posts

dom604

i decided as im racing next year with my 205 i would change the conrod bolts for ARP ones. when doing so i thought ill be extra good and check the shells. these are not very good. and id rather replace now before its too late...

soo question is.. where do i go to get some without being ripped off...

the cranks fine no scores etc and the shells are standard size (as far as i remember)

any advice would be great

cheers Dom

Try HIflow heads or pug1off or even Peugeot

Have you got a local engine place near you? they can normally source the bits you need.

You need lead/copper bearings for Race use, You'll find the ones above will charge silly amount for those even std one's

I have them in at £55.00 plus delivery

But I'd check the crank to ensure it's round and even across the pin even if it looks OK

Standard 1.9 Mi16 rod bearings were lead/copper, then they dropped them for the 2L engines. I'm not sure if you can get them anymore.

I've been working through the stock of a company that has recently closed down. That's good to know, thanks.

Servicebox shows the same part numbers for the 1.9 8 valve as the 16, 606 H1 for std bearings, 606 F9 for the +0.3mm oversize.

that's a set of 8 half bearings, £40.73 for std, £74.36 for oversize.

XU10 are K2/L4 for std, and L2/N9 for os.

607 37 for std rod bolts, £8.37 EACH.

I don't know why anyone would order crank brgs from Peugeot. They are massively expensive compared to what is available from any decent engine machine shop.

Didn't think £40 for a set of big ends what that much? was quoted as much from a few local suppliers, then I used some J4R bearings which are £25 a set from pug, but probably not the "race spec" materials mentioned, though I know Sandy has used them in a race engine without issue.

Oddly, I've found big end shells from Peugeot are actually surprisingly cheap in some cases - GTi-6 ones (well, J4R) for example are around £25+VAT for a set and that's the cheapest place that I've found anywhere I've tried for them.

Mains aren't cheap though, and piston rings are eye-wateringly expensive for the most part.

Rings are £158 from Pug for all 4 sets.

Oh, it's worse than that Tom...

1.9 Mi16 rings = £185 inc VAT

2.0 S16 rings = £212 inc VAT

2.0 GTi-6 rings = £191 inc VAT

I think I'll stick to aftermarket suppliers for rings somehow

Are XU10J4RS rod bearings interchangeable with XU9J4/XU10J4?

can't see why not, the J4R fit the RS, and the J4 uses the same crank.

XU9 and XU10 cranks are not the same...

XU9 and XU10 cranks are not the same...

The only difference between bearings between XU9 and XU10 crank is the axial one.

steer clear of the make of bearings on my engine build thread. go for glyco as a minimum standard.
