Engine Failure Light.

car hasn't been running, keep getting an orange engine failure light, when its idle its sounds like its about to cut out, i keep my foot on the accelerator slightly to stop it, im afraid to let it die. ive heard a similar story with a 206 and it was a problem with the ecu. any advice?

If this is on a 205 with the k-light facility you can short the diagnostic pin to earth to get the error code readings, should tell you what the actual problem is.

 

Ive done it on mine using a small push button and 2 lengths of wire, Just turn the ignition to the on position and hold the earth connection for 5 secs, then it will flash, count the flashes, then a pause, then count the rest of the flashes.

 

Repeat holding down the earth connection until all the error codes have cycled, on my ECU it flashes 1 pause 1 or 0 at the start and end of each cycle.

 

The number of flashes give you your error code i.e if it flashes twice then pauses then flashes 4 times, your code is 24. Job done.
