[misc_work] Front And Rear Suspension Upgrades And General Freshen Up&

Recommended Posts

fatony1

A few months ago i took my 205 off the road (again!) to fit some rose-jointed front wishbones, new shocks, a VTS rack and a few other upgrades. I also have a 309 rear beam rebuilt by Anthony that i will be detailing and fitting at some point.

How the car was a few months ago, on stands in the yard at work

A VTS steering rack bought 2nd hand from here, all stripped ready for rebuild.

IMG_0481.JPG

First i plugged 2 of the holes from the power steering pipes

IMG_0482.JPG

Then i cut off the mount for the power steeering ram

Next i gave the rack a good de-grease and keyed it up ready for primer

IMG_0543.JPG

And then painted it Mercedes Benz '744' metallic silver, and satin lacquered it

IMG_0548.JPG

I also bought these 2 anodised plugs from Pirtek for the other 2 holes in the rack

IMG_0549.JPG

And here is the rack fully re-built, fitted with new (and painted) track rods, track rod ends, new boots etc

The new struts i bought (Bilstein group N) arrived so i started building them up with the 2nd hand (non-ovalled) pair of hubs i bought from Baz. The hubs and output flanges were also sand blasted and painted. New bearings were also fitted.

All fitted with freshly powdercoated springs

While the subframe was off i had one of the panel beaters at work seam weld it, not for any particular reason but looks and to make it sound good if i ever came to sell it :D I then had the ARB powdercoated and re-painted the subframe and ARB clamps. Powerflex bushes were also fitted.

IMG_0665.JPG

Then i gave the wheel arches a good steam clean and de-grease and cleaned all the road grime from the gearbox case with WD-40

IMG_0616.JPG

IMG_0618.JPG

I also fitted a new lightend pulley from Miles (to match the lightened flywheel) and a new metal water pipe bought from Peugeot. I also used stainless jubilee clips as the old ones had rusted and looked crap!

Looking really good mate! Not to take anything away from the hard work and worthy results, but do you have any more pics of the car? I really love miami blue 205's and yours looks really tidy from the pics :)

Keep up the good work!!!

Edit: Is that my old box? If so good old Boeing wing paint :) Tough as fook ;)

Mark - Yeah it's your old box mate, afraid your paint was flaking off though :( So like most of the bits on the car i re-painted it Merc 744 metallic silver (i work in a Merc bodyshop so there is gallons of the stuff floating about ;) )

allye - It's a 1.9 GTI but fitted with a GTI-6 lump :)

Isn't a VTS 2.4 LTL rack going to be a little stiff to manoeuvre at parking or on the limit without PAS especially with a boat anchor 6 engine?
