any way it failed its emisions in eveery single way possible

yeah would prob sort out the missfire and with the readings from the test think your gonna want a cat, what engine is it i have a new 1.8 16v coil pack here if your interested, priced one in work today and they £85 plus vat, to trade, open to offers, if you need one.

lambda is way out there too.

start by testing the coolant temp sender, then the lambda.

Engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor Checking -

Technical Data Temperature Resistance

10°C 3530-4100 W

20°C 2350-2670 W

30°C 1585-1790 W

40°C 1085-1230 W

50°C 763-857 W

60°C 540-615 W

80°C 292-326 W

90°C 215-245 W

Ensure ignition switched OFF. Disconnect ECT sensor multi-plug. Relieve residual pressure in cooling system. Remove ECT sensor from engine. Immerse ECT sensor probe in coolant of specified temperature. Check resistance between ECT sensor terminals. ECT sensor may be checked in situ if engine temperature and resistance readings are compared.

Oxygen sensor heater Checking supply voltage - Technical Data Terminals Voltage 1 & 2 Battery voltage NOTE: Disconnect injector multi-plugs before cranking tests, to prevent engine from starting. Ensure ignition switched OFF. Disconnect HO2S multi-plug. Briefly crank engine. Check voltage between harness multi-plug terminals Fig. 23 [2]. Checking resistance - Fig. 23 Technical Data Terminals Resistance 1 & 2 20 W max. Ensure ignition switched OFF. Disconnect HO2S multi-plug. Check resistance between HO2S terminals Fig. 23 [3]. i would test the ect as welsh pug suggested if you like wasting time! {no offence welsh pug}also test the lambda sensor, if all are within tolerance then cure the misfire and put a cat on, in my opinion the ect sensor test is a waste of time as they are so cheap to buy, ie about £7, and testing is so long winded, just change it it cant do it any harm imo

I wouldn't buy a £7 one, I don't see what's so long winded about throwing a multimeter across the terminals and seeing what the resistance is?

Spend 2 minutes doing that and save wasting your £7 ;)

my GTI 6 engine passed emmissions with flying colours without a cat (even for a cat test) so dont know why your's would be so bad...

Make sure you got the cam sensor plugged in, the injectors running at correct fuel pressure?

its not the putting of the multimeter across the terminals thats long winded its getting the correct temp to resistance variation if you look at the testing procedure.

10 degrees =3530-4100 Ω

20 degrees= 2350-2670Ω

and so on

;)

no need to go through the whole process in my experience, they are either spot on or wildly out.

ive heard of a few gti 6 engine passing with no cats, which was making me think that it isnt the cat

it does go through fuel like there is no tomorrow
