Problems With The Rain!

Recommended Posts

pp205

So down here in Devon it's been p*ssing down for the last couple of days. This means two things for my 205.

1. I have to use the windscreen wipers which makes me angry because they are rubbish, even with a reconditioned motor.

2. My windscreen mists up as soon as I get in the car and takes a long time to demist with the blowers on full blast! Luckily I had the sense for once to fix the blowers in the summer!

Anyone else have problems in the rain? At the moment I put it down to the retro charm of the 205!

Half the time its not down to the motor but tired linkages, during my rebuild I took all my linkages to bits and cleaned/greased them. Now they are really good and make no noises! (also using a 106 motor) reference the mist that means you may have a leak somewhere causing the condensation, then again could be normal misting up when you get in like my 309 does.

Time for new wipers? - does your o/s wiper have the little spoiler on it?

If you are steaming up - do you have a leak?

As well as trying to find a leak stick a dehumidifier in the car over night, there is enough give in the door seals to close the door with a mains cable passing through (or there is on mine anyway)

Some good advice thanks guys!

I will check the wiper linkages and give them a good greasing! Also interested by the 106 motor idea. The blades were new pre Mot which was last month. No spoiler on mine either!

I've previously had leaks but managed to dry everything out. It doesn't seem to be leaking now, just likes misting up when I get in the car. However it certainly could help chucking the dehumidifier in there!

Cheers

You might have a leaky heater matrix, take the stereo out and see if it has any moisture or corrosion on it and check for dampness in and above the space it came out of.

Polish your screen and apply some rainx, you won't need to use your wipers then!

The rain is really getting on my wick! But for other equally annoying reasons.

Was going to finish work at 4 on Monday to get an hour or so in before the light fails. It started raining almost at 4pm on the dot!

Yesterday afternoon was the same! It stopped briefly so I opened the bonnet up, and then the heavens opened again

I only have a few more small things to sort on my car before the MOT next week, but 'rain stops play'. I need a garage -_-

regarding steaming up, I got one of these to aid with any internal condensation Moisture Trap

It works really well and its surprising how much drier the car feels. Shove it in the boot or under a front seat.

+1

Watch the mist come out of the windscreen vents.

But first remove your radio before it gets trashed by coolant.

I'am more worried about what tyres to use on the rally on Saturday, with a limited budget you don't get many options. :)

My cars fine in the rain except for the lego brick tyres that are slippy as hell <_<

Never mists up and warms up quick aswell. And all the rear window heater strips even work as well :)

Id definetly have a look around for leaks and wet patches as well as checking the heater matrix like people have said, its a piece of cake to change if it is :)

I get something very similar from my local pound shop, they come in packs of 2s.

Just bought one for my wanky escort van, always has moisture on the windscreen. Useless piece of s*it.
