Gti6 Running Issues

Recommended Posts

WooDooUK

Hi,

Couple of times today the the engine in my 205 GTi6 just died and then refused to restart. (it turned over OK).

When it does die the big relay on the GTi6 loom goes nuts and keep clicking really quickly. but when the engine is running the relay is quite.

Is this relay prone to failing? Could it be the cause of my problem?

not particularly prone but not unknown, fairly common part though and worth starting with that as it will prevent the car running due to what it controls.

Update:

Since the first post it has been fine.

But it has now happened twice this week. both times the same thing. after a brief squirt at full beans the engine dies and refuses to start. along with the aforementioned relay clicking.

However the second time it happened this week i just happened to have another double relay in the car. so i swapped it over and it still refused to start. just the same clicking/squeaking.

After messing about, for 10-15 minutes trying to get it start, disconnecting the battery/relay etc. it then starts and runs perfectly.

I have been unable to establish if its a lack of fuel or spark due to not having any tools with me when this happens.

Any more ideas?

I had this problem a while ago and it turned out to be an earthing issue.

I've not found the XU crank sensors to be intermittent, the TU ones certainly can be though, but XU seem to just die and that's it, cheap enough from GSF mind, and not too bad from a dealer, and dirt cheep from a scrappy

Time to leave some tools in the boot for some diagnosing! you still in Cowbridge mark?

Right, after leaving my local motor factors it died again, so i took the opportunity to fit my new Crank sensor. it ran fine again till i gave it some beans, and then died again, however this time it was more long term. fortunately i was quite close to home.

Whilst the relay is clicking the fuelpump will not prime when then ignition is turned on. so ran 12v directly to the pump. It still would not start. suggests what ever the cause its also causing either the injectors to not fire and/or the coils to not fire.

Is there any other sensors that will cause the engine to do this?

and Mei, im based in Caerphilly now.
