Do anyone know the diameter of the tubes in an OMP steel rollcage for the 205?

I would also like to know the wallthickness of the tubes if anyone knows.

just measured mine. Main roll loop is 50mm, the rest of the cage including door bars are 40mm.

I did see the wall thickness on some website when ordering it, Ill have a look and post back later

Tnx :) I'm gonna figure out if my aluminium rollcage is weaker than the omp or vice versa.

The videos... Hm.. Actually most of them are quite nice to watch :)

But you could get the "Kristian Lap 1" and "Vegard Lap 1".

I know the first one is fewking large, so if you don't have broadband it'll be kinda useless.

They alloy one will be weaker, yes.

2mm is very thick, GpN subarus only use 1.6/8mm thick and 38/40mm diameter...

For competition use I thought that the tubing had to be have at least 2mm wall thickness, ie 45mm dia 2.5 mm wall, 50mm dia 2mm wall, 38mm dia 2.5mm wall.

Has the rule been changed in recent years ?

Cheers

Paul

At the end of the day, if you buy an FIA approved cage, it will be at least to the specified requirements. More than likely it will be well over engineered to cover their backsides.

Eg, a safety devices multi-point cage for a 205, which is still fairly basic, weighs roughly 30-35kgs. A prodrive designed and built cage for their GpN customer cars is mega complex and weighs 36 Kgs. It only has what it really needs...

Can't find my blue book at the mo,

Material Spec from this years Blue Book.

Minimum material SEAMLESS CARBON STEEL.

minimum yield strength 350 N/mm squared.

Minimum Dimensions mm

45mmx2.5mm or 50mmx2mm

38x2.5mm or 40x2mm for roll bars approved prior to 1.1.95.

Details forming etc.

In selecting the steel, attention must be paid to obtaining good elongation properties and adequate weldability.

The tubing must be bent by a cold working process and the centreline bend radius must be at least 3 times the tube diameter, if the tubing is ovalised during bending the ratio of minor to major diameter must be 0.9 or greater.

This was copied from this years MSA Blue book 2003, I hope they don't mind
