Purist Or A Meddler

Recommended Posts

sceptre

I'm definitely a purist when it comes to the looks but adding to it in ways which are less visible such as handling and subtle changes under the bonnet are a must!

I want my car to look original but drive like its new!

Never EVER put a big exhaust on it, it's simply degrading!

As many others have said, standard looks but improvements to the performance/handling. Ultimateley, I get alot of pleasure from trackdays so making her a bit quicker/safer is they way to go for me.

I'll only do modifications that look like they could be standard. Very subtle things here and there, usually just means using OEM parts from other pugs. I'm not a fan of bodykits and black or overly shiny wheels at all. Think the only things I'm going to do to the 309 are paint the bumpers black to match the bodywork and maybe some 16" Ouragon's for on the road.

I find the best way to have it is - A standard 1.6, A standard 1.9 and One with an engine conversion thats standard looking B)

Im a purist.

I remember when i first joined this forum. I had idea's of a 205 slammed, with a gutttman grille, and a smoothed rear tailgate, everything de locked etc.

After a month i realised the 205 can't look any better than standard.

i too am a purist and my current daily ride is 100% standard but i am always on the look out for another at the right price ( read very cheap!!! lol! ) and am thinking i would love to own one totally standard bordering on concours and a standard looking but re engined or turboed sleeper! so i fall in the centre of the 2 camps! ;)

however i have posted here about a few totally ruined sheds ( sorry lol i mean 205 gti's that have had expensive unrequired plastic surgery!!! ) and think that the phrase "if it aint broke dont fix it" apply's to the gorgeous shape of the 205 and apart from the dimma kit am not a fan of bits of second rate tat ( read most so called after market body kits! ) being stuck to the bodywork of a 205 gti! aside from the dimma which looks awesome and was also officially acknowledged by peugeot!

being a more mature 205 gti driver i still remember them being sold brand new from 1984 onwards and lived right through the max power era and saw so many body kit manufacturers and so called professional modifiers come and go! how many are still left trading now? not many! thankfully! :(

so many cars have been ruined by idiots sticking every piece of aftermarket crap to their cars along with baked bean can tailpipes and poor quality paint jobs and not just peugeots! i for one am glad that our scene is once again returning to the oem look with quality improvements and re engineering!

less really is more nowadays and with our 205 gti's becoming rarer and going up in value ( even the rattiest examples ) it will soon be the case that we are all sympathetically restoring them or even virtually re manufacturing them to as they were built!

Purist although I did buy my 1.6 with a K&N already fitted don't think I can part with that for the lovely induction noise it makes!!!

I'm a bit of an OEM+ myself...

I love the shape of the car, but think there are a lot of very subtle mods that can really set the car off...

It's in for 2.0l and ITB's at the moment, so obviously engine work is not a problem in my eyes, but I think on the outside it has to be standard as possible, little tweaks to the suspension, but standard wheels, and upgrade the "invisible"... Not invisible to the 205 fan, but invisible to those who don't know their 205's...

Make it faster, make it handle better & make it stop better.

But leave no visual clues. ;)
