Hello,

 

I'm new on this forum, not new in the 205 scene. But before I was only active on the Duth 205 GTI forum.

 

I think it is a good start to post my project first.

 

Before this project I build a 205 Griffe with 2.0 8V T engine, 17"rims, 309 front bumperspoiler, Brembo brakes, Cutsom lether door panels ans back panels with audio speakers(The way Jamie Shaw from Carisma did in his R5's). but that was in 2003.

My project, before this one I start posting here, was a 205 CTI with a MI16 engine and a lysholm compressor. It was a old set-up from the person in Liëge ( B ). He is the person who also made the set-up for Ecosse

The sound was realy great but the output was not what I expected.

The project I'm working on at this moment is my 205 Gentry.

I will post a bit every day... but the car is already running at this time.

 

 

The bottom is from a XU10J2TE, As you can se we change top bearing. Because the XU10J2TE don't has one and I think is better to have it ;-)

So with a little work it was done

The pistons are from Wiseco, the normaly use in the T16 engines, but with the change we made in the rods also fits my XU10J2 engine.

So we move on with more pictures :)

 

The bottom of the engine is fitted. The oilpump is an original 2.0 8V T. I think it's the same the use on a T16 engine.

And never had problems with it. So I think this one will do the job.

 

Talking about the timing belt. The width of the 8V belt and the 16V is very different. So I need to solve that problem later.

I use ARP studs froma T16 engine. But the problem is that one hole in the MI16 engine is divergent.

So I needed one special stud with a different lenght. (Longer).

I try to explain the difference in the head for people who did know. Normaly al 10 original bolts have the same lenght.

To prevent that you put one bolt in to the housing the waterpump the made a hole in the cilinder head of a MI16 (on top of the waterhousing) that is not that deep. So it isn't possible that the bolt is going to deep (into your waterpump housing).

 

That solved and a little modification to the Wiseco gasket I made a nice sandwich!

Looks like a nice build so far, threads like this (and Ericyellows videos on youtube!) are giving me silly ideas though!

 

Look forward to seeing how the rest goes.

 

Is the Mi16 head / cams a good starting point for a 16v Turbo?

Below some pictures to show you guys the difference in the stud holes in the MI16 cilinderhead

 

 

One of the 9 normal (deep)holes.

After fitting the exhaust and the turbo it was time to move to the inletmanifold.

First I started with a MI16 inlet manifold:

But thinking about the throttle I was not so happy with the MI16 inlet.

So the decission was easy made to move over to a XU10J4RS manifold

 

Inside the plenum of a 306 GTI manifold.....

Fit, but it use a little bit to much space.

So... that will give me some more room under the hood. I took out a +3inch.

The thermostathousing you see on the picture is from a S16, with a little modification.

 

 

As written in mine first post, the difference between a 8V and 16V crankshaft pulley:

Any particular reason why you used XU10J2TE instead of XU10J4 as a base for this "T16" engine?

Looking good mate not well up on the 205`s but is there an adition bracket that holds the turbo? looks alot of weight dangling thats all lol

yes. unfortunately the engine blew up in september, after a short while of enjoying that power :( Don't know what the exact problem was, but there were some mistakes made by building up the engine. Somethings he didn't do himself, but a company.

 

Now he is building a new engine based on a S16 XU10j4.

Not only your computer, mine too :P

 

I think the photo's are removed. This was also his old 205.

 

Nowadays he is building a CTi. He just mounted the engine in a fresh painted body. Still a lot of work to do.

I will inform you guys what happend..

 

The overhaul of the engine bottom was done by a company.

So I received the engine bottom assembled by them what means the crack, rods en pistons where in.

Together with the oilpump.

 

As seen I did the rest of the building.

Programming the VEMS we achieved 374hp at 1 bar of boost. Enough to start with.

 

But after only 500km on the street the nightmare happend.

One of the rods left the engine. Necessary to tell how I was feeling.....

 

To make a long story short.

The company did almost all the work in the bottom wrong related to the correct clearance between the parts.

 

After a ling discussion with I guy who sais he was a race engine expert he told me I was right and I got some money from the insurance from the company which did the assembling.

 

Now I started a new project beginning this year :)
