Curses! Mot Failure!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys.

Took the GTI for it's MOT and it's bloody gone and failed! Not normally a problem but it needs a couple of spots welded - and I can't weld!

The spot weld on the bottom of the B pillar has gone, and there is a hole underneath the O/S passenger seat - which means the tank has to be dropped.

Normally I'd hand it over to a garage but I'm not rich enough to have someone deal with the hassle of dropping the fuel tank, which is the issue!

So I thought I'd ask on here if someone would like to weld me up if I drop the tank myself - should only be a small job if I move all the stuff out of the way I'm thinking?

Either way it needs to be done in 10 days or less, so I'm going to wack it on here and see if anyone can help - otherwise I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and take the hit!

Any help much appreciated - a rough quote would be good if you reckon you've got the skills & tools!!!!

Cheers,

Adam.

they failed you for that? jesus thats a little picky.

if you were a bit closer i could help you out but tbh im chocka block at the mo with work and other commitments.

im sure someone will help you out as its not a big job once the tank is out of the way.

i would also suggest a different mot station in the future

i'd love to know how they have failed that corrosion under the seat when you cant see that as the tanks in the way and there not allowed to lift the rear seats to check for it.

i personally wouldnt of failed that b post corrosion either, thats just being really anal <_<

i'd lodge an appeal with vosa about that, powers have definately gone to his head

i've just been looking at your second picture again and there is definately something not right with it. the hole on the right hand side hasnt been made with the hammer end of the corrosion assesment tool. they have used the other end which is only supposed to be a scraper for removing underseal etc. it looks like they have jabbed the scraper end in until its made an hole. do an appeal cause that aint on.

TBH it was my fault, the buckle for the seatbelt was still under the rear seat so he lifted it up to get to it...it was Just MOTs, they're normally pretty good and as I've already shelled out £35 for the MOT i'd like to take advantage of my free re-test!

I guess I could give it another go with the rear seats down but I guess the B pillar would probably still fail, the spot weld has definitely pulled through!

I am on the mobile version so can't see your location, shal, but am I right in thinking you are in Winchester? If so a freind of mine in Basingstoke (who is also on here) might be able to do it for you. Only problem is, he's at the 'ring until next wednesday.

The pillar one is a odd one as it's near the seatbelt mount although nothing to do with it much like the suspension pick up points up front, Under the seat is fair game as the rear beam cross member is under there so worth doing, Also while the tanks out if not done already is change the brake lines as these will be past there best

I'm in Brighton unfortunately at the moment - thanks for the offer though!

Yeah might do the fuel lines at the same time.
