[misc_work] Miami 205 Dturbo!

Recommended Posts

Dan!

Hello! I joined a few weeks back after the forum started accepting new user registrations, but havent posted much since. Thought id throw up a few photos of my 205, from how I bought it, to how it stands now!

I was originally looking for a 306 DT, after my first car was a 306 1.9 NAD, I joined up on pug306.net, and got the diesel tuning bug from the chaps on there. However, in the end I picked my 205 up off ebay about 6 months ago, completely standard, with 124k on the clock. Mardi Gras special edition, so Miami blue, with electric windows, sunroof, and pretty much NO other luxuries!

I paid £550 for it, with no tax, and 6 months MOT, maybe a bit to much, but theyre getting rare now, so I snapped it up :D

Pictures from the ebay ad before I picked her up:

Looking very 'poverty spec'! B)

Driving it home, and general condition photos..

Next up - straight through exhaust, DIY style. Got my back box off, and a straight pipe cut up ready to be welded on. Heres a pic of the test fit, before the new peice of exhaust was cut down :P

IMG01186-20100918-1719.jpg

And another shot from underneath, showing how the pipe sits, and where its going to be welded..

IMG01188-20100918-1719.jpg

And the new peice of exhaust was cut using the most failhacksaw ever..

IMG01189-20100918-1735.jpg

Managed to get the pipe arrangement to sit on the zorst cut out noicely, and my mate had a spare 4" tip laying around, which he kinly donated to finish the look off :D We had to pull the whole system out in order to get a decent weld on the new pipe, but after alot of work, heres the final result :)

Also a few pics of the engine bay after a quick clean up! (Still running the tinfoil intake, really helps prevent heatsoak ;) )

IMG01174-20100917-1755.jpg

And a nice surprise under a peice of tape, can you all guess what it is?

IMG01171-20100917-1606.jpg

The guy that owned this before me must have thought he was like the bodge king, seriously nothing has been 'fixed' properly!

Then, smoked side repeaters B)

Looks dudey IMO, cant stand bright orange indicators, clear or smoked FTW.

I also made a start on my stickered bonnet. I really need a load more stickers, as the only ones I really had many of were old mountain biking ones, and a free sheet from Max power about 6 months ago :P Good start though, Il have the whole underside covered in a few months :D

bonnetstickers.jpg

Then I received my gti dash loom, so I could fit my new clocks (with a rev counter..). Spent about 3 hours in the dark tearing out my dash ready to fit the new loom. Obviously didnt get it finished, but this is how it looked the day after!

dash2.jpg

dash1.jpg

dash3.jpg

Cleaned the engine bay properly with some GUNK and a pressure washer. Was a bit dubious, but I covered up the air intake, oil filler, battery and alternator to be safe. Pictures!

utf-8BSU1HMDE0NzUtMjAxMDEwMjMtMTUyMS5qcGc.jpg

Not shiny, but nice n clean! No before pictures really, but im sure you all know what a grubby 15 y/o engine bay looks like! :P Thankfully it started up first time, although after about 2 minutes of driving, the water temperature light, and STOP light came up on the dash! I pulled over to check nothing was fwarked, and there was a hella lot of steam coming mostly off the radiator, which I let clear up, then carried on driving. The STOP light kept on lighting up everytime I drove 'hard' for about the next 6/7 hours, but it all seemed fine after that, so no worries! :D

Then gave it another exterior clean and de-hub capped it:

Then a few weeks later got my hands on one of these.

utf-8BSU1HMDAwNzItMjAxMDExMTktMTYzOC5qcGc.jpg

For those who dont know, its a Bosch fuel pump. Great improvement over the standard Lucas setup, much more dynamic in the tuning sector, and is self lubricating, meaning it can be run on Veg oil, without seizing up - tasty!

Got my new headlight bulbs fitted - Osram nightbreakers!

utf-8BSU1HMDAxNDgtMjAxMDExMjctMTgwNi5qcGc.jpg

Muchos better than before, certainly worth the £11.50 I paid.

And I also fitted the correct mileage odometer into my DT clocks, an while I was there I painted the needles white instead of the yucky orange colour they were :yuk: THey still light up orange when its night time and you have the lights on, but thats fine becasue all the numbers light up orange aswel

Next on the shopping list was some new rimz. They ended up in the form of 106 xsi alloys. 14 x 5.5J, means they wont rub on the stupid small non-gti arches, and I got them for £70, which wasnt to bad!

utf-8BSU1HMDAzMDMtMjAxMDEyMTItMTUzOC5qcGc.jpg

utf-8BSU1HMDAzMDQtMjAxMDEyMTItMTUzOC5qcGc.jpg

Ride is now sky high though, so lowering is on the cards when I can afford it!

Then, it was christmas time! Treated myself to:- 1 can of primer, 2 cans of Miami blue, 4 sheets of wet'n'dry, a tub of P38 and a bottle of 'Rain-x'. All in came to £35 :| Theyre called halfrauds for a reason! But I would have only saved like £5 ordering it all online, and it would take a week to get here, so im not tooooooo annoyed!

utf-8BSU1HMDA0MTUtMjAxMDEyMjgtMTQ0OS5qcGc.jpg

And from my mum - New gauges which arrived christmas eve;

utf-8BSU1HMDAzOTUtMjAxMDEyMjMtMTYzOS5qcGc.jpg

utf-8BSU1HMDAzOTgtMjAxMDEyMjMtMTY0MC5qcGc.jpg

utf-8BSU1HMDAzOTctMjAxMDEyMjMtMTY0MC5qcGc.jpg

Oil pressure and temperature. You can also see the filter adapter sandwich plate, which seems decent enough, and has 4 take off points, which is more than enough for now :-D

Then I went to a scrapyard and picked up a GTi front bumper, FINALLY! A clip for my parcel shelf which I snapped ages ago, and a GTi steering wheel centre cap :D

utf-8BSU1HMDA0MzctMjAxMDEyMjktMTYwNi5qcGc.jpg

Rubbed down with 80 grit sandpaper. Also came with 2 fogs, although theyre both corroded to fcuk, and one is smashed.

utf-8BSU1HMDA0MzYtMjAxMDEyMjktMTYwNi5qcGc.jpg

Big scrape along the bottom, starting to flatten it down..

utf-8BSU1HMDA0NDItMjAxMDEyMjktMTYyNi5qcGc.jpg

8)

Also bought one of these from B&Q:

utf-8BSU1HMDA0MzktMjAxMDEyMjktMTYxNC5qcGc.jpg

for the pricely sum of £1 :)

It has 4 55m outlets, so I hacksawed itup, and il be using 3 of them for holder in my gauge / vent conversion im starting :D See below for pictures of the days progress..

Sanded down smooth-ish

utf-8BSU1HMDA0OTgtMjAxMDEyMzAtMTk0NC5qcGc.jpg

Trial fit with 2 of the gauges

utf-8BSU1HMDA0OTktMjAxMDEyMzAtMTk0NS5qcGc.jpg

utf-8BSU1HMDA1MDEtMjAxMDEyMzAtMTk0Ni5qcGc.jpg

First coat of primer

utf-8BSU1HMDA1MDMtMjAxMDEyMzAtMTk1My5qcGc.jpg

Then I set about modifiying the dash so the back of the guages wouldnt hit the old vent blower hole things, and so that when the blowers are on, they didnt melt the back of the holder or anything..

utf-8BSU1HMDA1MTctMjAxMDEyMzEtMTIxNy5qcGc.jpg

You can see inside the hole there is another hole which is where I was blocking it off, using an ice cream tub lid :P

utf-8BSU1HMDA1MTktMjAxMDEyMzEtMTIyMC5qcGc.jpg

Bit of silicone round the hole, and cut the lid into shape..

utf-8BSU1HMDA1MjEtMjAxMDEyMzEtMTIyNy5qcGc.jpg

utf-8BSU1HMDA1MjItMjAxMDEyMzEtMTIzMi5qcGc.jpg

Seems to have stuck well, and theres only a tiny leak, so im happy with it overall! :-D

Then I managed to radge a 406 FMIC pipe into the right size/shape to replace my old tin foil inlet pipe from the airbox to the oil breather section.

utf-8BSU1HMDA3MDctMjAxMTAxMjItMTMyMy5qcGc.jpg

You can see the old pipe on the left hand side! #-o

Moar pictorz of the bumper:

utf-8BSU1HMDA3MTMtMjAxMTAxMjItMTUyNy5qcGc.jpg

Then I got these:

attachment-OKN3PV.jpg

attachment-JH2XPV.jpg

Along with some plain Eicher discs. Fitted them on saturday and had a vibration problem at first, but theyre all sorted now :-D

Started matt blacking the fog inserts, as im not going to bother buying fogs, and il probably end up cutting out the inserts and radging in a couple of cold air feeds..

Finally got it fitted.

attachment-E074PV.jpg

attachment-XD38PV.jpg

And with the smoothed-ish and painted top bumper..

Recently I have fitted 50mm gti lowering springs to the car, and repainted my wheels, here are some photos as it stands now, deperately needing the back lowered!

Not got a lot left I want to do to it, just lower the rear end 30mm, and tidy up a few imperfections!

Any comments, criticism or questions welcome, Dan!

I love the smoothness and the general direction, the XSi wheels and the gti bumper but I think it would have looked a lot more upmarket had you left the wheels silver and leave people with rat car bangers like my diesel to go for the "cant look any worse" color coding. You and your misses keep up the good work.

Cheers for the comments chaps!

Ive got plenty of photos of the missus working on the car, gotta keep them trained eh? :P Needs a wash this week, will get some of her doing that haha!

Rallye arches are a possibility in the future, although im not un-happy with the way it looks atm..

And about the wheel colour, I think they could look alot worse, and you may be surprised to hear thats the first negative comment iv had about them! :o but anyway, this cars not, and never will be 'up-market', so the silver had to go. Lifes to short for boring wheels :P

Cheers again, Dan!
