Caught Speeding

Why worry, i have heard on the news that there's loads of drivers allowed on the road with over 12 points. If a ban causes hardship they are allowed to carry on. There's one bloke in Swindon with 39 points and still allowed to drive. The law is an ass

You either need the licence for your job or if you have kids i think means you most likely wont get banned if over 12 points.

It was for my too inpatient Dad.

Yes but the problem is that the sods keep doing it like the one with 39 points. Whens the cut off point, whens hes killed some one?

Got caught ( by Radar Gun) doing 50 in a 30 mph zone 6 years back in my 205. Got £60 fine and 3 points, with the policeman telling me that I would have got an automatic ban if I was doing 5mph extra.

My experiences of speeding are varied and probably quite lucky.

I have been nicked at 78 in a 50 and only got 3 points and £60 (0420 on a sunday morning on a dual carriageway in Salford); though this seemed lenient I was pleased.

I have also been pulled for overtaking an unmarked police car and doing "over 3 figures" in a fiesta mkiv 1.25 fiesta on the A4 between Beckhampton and Marlborough (one of Clarkson's fave stretches of road). I was entirely honest with him as I expected to lose my license there and then but being frank meant that he spent about half an hour making sure I knew I was an idiot then left me to drive to Manchester???

In my youth (205 days) I had a threatening letter which detailed a selection of offenses that I could get up to 55 points in 1 whack for! That amounted to nothing as it was just a public complaint that went nowhere...

Basically, until you hear for sure I would consider this a grey area. Hope it doesn't ruin your relationship with work or make the GTfour an uninsurable treat.

Best wishes,

Fred.

The problem does not lie in what penalty you get, be it a fine, points or short ban. The problem is the next 3 or 4 years declaring points to your insurance company which could drain you of cash, depending on your age...

Personally i don't give a f**k how many points they have but every one should have the same chance. As for your Daily Mail stick it where the sun don't shine :P

The government are changing the way idiot drivers are dealt with. Idiot drivers are suppose to be fined up to £100 for things like cutting people up etc. They want to use less tech to police drivers and rather have the police sort it.

Where are they getting these police people to do it in the first place ?

Watch out soon anyone could be faced with a big fine :o

Just to finish this thread off, I got away with 6 points and £160 fine for speeding, £85 in court fees and then a £15 victim surcharge..... What the victim surcharge is all about I have no idea though!!

A guy did go past just as I did, wasn't paying attention to how fast he was going I was too busy watching my wobbly speedo.

I didn't think Gatso cameras worked that way around though?

They can be set off by people going in the other direction apparently. They'll know how fast you were going anyway by comparing the distance travelled between the two photos. I heard that around 10% of the photos taken by the cameras don't end in prosecution because the car wasn't actually speeding, no idea if this is true or not though.

Well that's good to hear!

I haven't had any letters pop through my door yet so fingers crossed!

I can testify to the fact that you can set off a Gatso when travelling over the limit in the opposite direction. I set quite a few off on the A1 when I was going back and forth between London and Edinburgh just over a year ago. Nothing came of it though (by the time the 2nd flash goes off you have already gone past the camera).
