Need To Use Christmas Bonus Wisely...

Recommended Posts

AJA_GTi

Boss has given me his Evo Viii GSR to detail over 2 week shutdown. Fully insured but any damage wouldnt be condusive to a long and happy career with my present company. I recon 2 days for 2 guys will sort out the paint etc so it leaves me 11 days to 'excersise' the engine etc etc.

I've been told I can run it... carefully...

Any tips on driving such a machine (esp in current conditions)?? I've had a wrx and powerfull fwd/ rwd cars but not something like this before.

This could be the most exciting Christmas of my life... B) I'm really excited at the mo as I get it tomorrow as youll probably have noticed...

It's only a 260ish BHP one so it won't be that mad!

1) I always drive other people's cars with respect, as the consequences of something going wrong don't bare thinking about. If it was my bosses car, I'd be driving it like a nun!

2) Surely it's a bit weird to be detailing it in this weather? Spend hours on it and then drive it back to him through all this slush?

Yeah but you can still drive it with respect and carefully use a little bit of its performance. I mean, they are designed to be driven hard. Agree about the detailing though, unless you detail it, put a car cover on it and cut out the windscreen part when you drive it back, that might work.

I drive a hi spec Subaru and driven sensibility with 4 wheel drive its not a problem even with high performance tarmac tryes. Being carefull with the use of the right foot is the secret, not the speed.

Remember 4WD is not going to help when you try to stop or steer in the snow better than other cars unless you have winter tyres.

Enjoy and drive carefully/safely.

And stay on the power when you oversteer.

When I've been offered a razz in someone elses car I generally use this rule of thumb- can I afford to buy it if I spanked it?

If the answer is yes I have a razz, otherwise thanks for the offer but I'd rather not.

You missed out, "Can I afford to buy it if the boss has fired me?"

:( very true - it'll be driven with extreme care, as you say not worth thinking about something going wrong.

As far as detailing it'll be in a heated workshop and he's picking it up from there (It'll be filthy by the time he gets it home but at least the paint will be right)...

Ahh, that's a bit nicer then! But even with 400+ BHP the'yre still so easy/flattering to drive and correctable instantly on the fly that you've got to be doing something pretty mental to lose one! Unless you hit snow/ice etc of course! ^_^

If it was my bosses car i would not drive it, no matter how much cash i have to buy it simple, its not because of the way i drive but because of the others that are on the road and with this weather its no way worth it imo.

Totally agreed with the above.

I'd be too s*it scared of something happening to it - imagine calling your boss to tell him some tool has hit it while you were out - no thanks!

Totally agree. I nearly had a minor shunt yesterday as I was crawling down a slush covered hill towards a junction in a residential area. Next thing some stupid little blonde girl has come from my left around the blind corner and cut across my lane as she's turned in to the junction. I had to be light on the brakes even at such a slow speed, but I must have missed clipping the side of her car by inches. Silly cow
