I'll keep an eye on the bearings,

 

mine is a similar setup to yours, and has been handling unpredictably of late, there is also noise from the wheelbearing front left, which is also GSF and also has less than 5000 miles...

 

May try and get a new bearing pressed in next weekend.

 

A side question, is the rack mounted on rubber bits?

I am not impressed with GSF parts in general, instead I've fitted Quinton Hazell bearings from my local factor.

 

The steering rack is solid mounted to the subframe with 2 M10 bolts.

No not yet, but any of the steering racks you choose to fit are mounted in the same way.
