1.6 Engine Looms Phase 1.5

Recommended Posts

flipperthebushkangaroo

Basicallyi have done lots of searching and the different phases and engine sizes seem to have different looms but how different are they? would the connectors on a phase 1.5 and a phase 2 be the same? how difficult would it be to "fettle" one to the other?

Same question about the rest of the front end wiring really?

Any advice appreciated

Cheers

There's two* types of Phase 1.5 loom - one with a wing-mounted coil, and one with an inlet mounted coil. 1.6 and 1.9 GTi are the same. It's possible to change one into the other, but easier still to just change the coil.

Easy to use a Phase 2 Jetronic loom in place of a late Phase 1.5 loom as it's just two pins to swap over on the underdash brown plugs. To use a Phase 2 loom on an earlier Phase 1.5 car, again, is easiest to just swap to the other type of coil.

Phase 1 looms are completely different, and Phase 2 CAT equipped cars use Motronic which would be an involved swap (ECU, flywheel, AFM etc) rather than just the loom.

( * - technically speaking they moved the ignition amp around as well, but that's a non-issue hence only mentioning two types)
