306 Hdi Making Awful Noise

Recommended Posts

hexhamstu

I took the oil filler cap off and it is blowing air out of it, is this normal?

Hard to place the clattering noise, but sounds like left hand side of engine when looking from the front. Wish it didn't have all that plastic covering on underneath would make diagnosing much easier.

What should I check first?

I did google, came up with some s*ite about a boost something or other. Is it the same as the bottom pulley on gti-6s that have a rubber part so it slips round?

I've read a couple of things about this bottom pulley now, but not really what truly happened. Since it's just the AUX pulley can it break/snap/die and knock the cambelt off causing destruction?

I'm supposed to be working tonight and really need the car, is driving it going to cause further damage?

not quite the same construction but the same principle, the ones on the HDI engines can take the timing belt out when they let go.

the timing wont be out, but I really wouldn't run it till its diagnosed properly and if it is that replace it ASAP.
