Adrian Flux - Cheeky Basts!

Recommended Posts

GLPoomobile

Just called Flux to change my policy as I'm moving address. I was expecting a bit of a refund, since I'm going from on street parking in (almost) central London (N1 - Greenlight Insurance wouldn't even quote my postcode this year!), to secure underground parking in the outskirts of Edinburgh.

Girl comes back to me saying she's made the change and there's no change in the price. WTF! So I said I was surprised under the circumstances, and she says she'll speak to a manager if I'd like. I declined and said I'd just look around for another policy, so she then insists on checking with the manager. Then she comes back to me saying the system is not quoting properly and it should indeed be cheaper.

After waiting for 5 minutes the final answer was that the underwriter (Equity Red Star) had already given me their minimum policy price (£307) but under the circumstances they'd go down to £293. Smells a bit like s*ite to me

I can't help but think that this is a case of them fobbing me off becuase I'm already a customer, so less likely to go looking elsewhere. Although I do acknowledge the fact that it is actually still a good price considering it's not a classic policy.

Take that price, everyone you talk to has seen their insurance rocket this time around, so take it whilst you can get it.

My insurance went up once when I moved because they said the new place was a worse area, then I moved back to the exact same house I was in to start with and my insurance went up again and they told me it was because it was a worse area. I obviously questioned it and they insisted it had to be true as their computer said it and it must have got worse in the last six months while I was away...

The general rule with insurance seems to be that no matter what changes you're making to the policy - going from one car to another, one address to another, or whatever - it never seems to work out that you get any money back....

That's what I'm thinking Anthony. Plus you have to pay the admin fee for the priviledge of being bummed :o Glad I don't move or change cars often!

I'm still happy that it's a lowish price, plus it is less than last year and I couldn't get a cheaper quote at renewal a few weeks back. So happy, yes, but still feeling somewhat cheated

Shop around, they will always try to find an excuse for it to go up!

I had a non-fault accident in the 205 and when I came to insure the 306, Flux asked if I had been involved in any accidents, regardless of fault. I believe this had some bearing on my renewal! 23, 5 years NCB, customer with Flux for 4 years and they wanted £860! I even asked if they were at least going to try and be competitive, but they wouldn't budge! I paid less then half with Direct Line, also declaring the accident.

Flux have never charged me any extra when changing postcode, but i've never moved very far TBH. Conversely, Elephant charged a fee for changes, then inceased the premium when I moved into another student house in pretty much the same area. I think they just make it up!

I had a non-fault accident in the 205..

I had a similar experience when I was trying to find insurance for the Mondeo last week. I had a quote from Admiral for £360 but when I went to pay the bloke on the phone said it wouldn't allow him to continue because "the system" said I had 2 incidents in my history. One of them being when a lorry ran into the back of me, and the other being when the BOC driver reversed into my car in the car park at work, then drove off! Neither of which I claimed on my insurance for, but the second one I didn't claim at all! They then offered me £750 as their "best price" so I told them to f-themselves!

I then went to More Than, and got a slightly more expensive original quote of £450, but none of the hassle over the two "incidents".

The moral of the story is, the cheap insurance companies will give you a good original quote, sure. But they will do absolutely anything to drive your premium up, and then bulls*it you into thinking it's the best you'll ever get!

they always scam you insurance companys, when you say you swill shop elsewhere they always come back with a cheaper quote, why dont they just give you that quote to start off with, sometimes it pays to run around with no insurance, they dont really seem to do alot with people that dont have any

I am actually surprised that you did not get hit with a £20-£30 administration charge.

Sack Flux off and go with Brentacre in Swansea. They are truly helpful, and really go out of their way to sort you out.

I've had nothing but great customer service from them!

if the matrix is full, you'll not get a deal, when the matrix is not full. you could be lucky... that's the facts.

Having an accident against you (even if you dont claim) will weigh down your insurance. Unbelievably they consider that if you have had one accident you are more likely to have another, even if it's not your fault......

Crazy but true.

My son had a car transporter run in the back of him whilst stationary and he got loaded due to this on his records.

Can only speak good words about flux here personally (and I'm not sucking up because of the above poster's presence). They dealt with the claim against me (that wasn't my fault) back in January very well, and have consistently offered the lowest quotes since I've known about them, plus I didn't get any admin charges when switching from the 205 to the 306 and back for a week, nor was i charged when I moved to the 309.

Never pay the admin fee! Just contest it and they generally roll over. I've not paid an admin fee for any changes made in years.

By the way that does strike me as a reasonable price given the generall rise in policy prices following a shockingly bad year for insurers last year.

I had an accident, and went from £330 to over £700 with flux so just went with admiral for £370. I sorta get the feeling that whatever insurance company you are with you will always get ** over if your trying to reclaim any value of your car. So I tend to go thrid party and take the cheapest price. Especially with old s*it bags like 205s that are worth £400 or atleast thats how insurance companies see them.

I used to only ever go TPFT as I was convinced that FC would be too expensive. Then I was comparing them online a few years ago and found that FC was only a few quid more expensive. I always go FC now! For the tiny amount extra it costs, it's not worth not doing it IMO. I know it's difficult to reclaim the true value of a 205, but I'd rather have some chance with FC than no chance with TP or TPFT.

I'm calling around for insurance now, got my best quote off Flux. They have just text me an hour later with a quote that's £55 more.

Seems odd!

I'm sure most of them just make it up as they go along. Went to insure the Pug through a local brokers (that I've used for years) and the best price they gave me was £420 which was roughly what Flux came in at too. Gave Direct Line a try and got it for £280 which I ended up taking. This was with 1 claim (courtesy of my missus), 3 years NCB, very very low crime area and being 31 years old......

at my age and amount of NCB FC makes a huge difference to price :) not long to 25 and then it should even out a bit.

I'm in the unenviable position of having a bad accident record - 2 recorded as "at fault" and 2 as "not at fault". My insurance has doubled unsurprisingly. Annoyingly only one accident was really my fault (others were deer landing ON the car, driver mid-skid battering the OS of another car and my sister putting another car into the central reservation of the M8).

Will just have to wait a couple of years before it drops back down to reasonable levels.
