406 Coupe V6

Recommended Posts

Silverlake scrappy in botley (hants) have a running 406 coupe v6 engine, 103k miles. I was there looking for ZX bits and bobs and came across this so thought I'd ask about it. It starts and runs, they have some history (although not a lot) the only thing is the price......

This seemed quite steep to me but then again I've never looked into the pricing of these things! They are asking £295+VAT for it, it's of absolutely no interest to me but knowing the v6 conversion is becoming more and more popular thought I'd let everybody on here know! I've no idea which power output version of the engine it is before anyone asks but I know that it is complete!

depends how much comes with it, and if there's history of a belt, but that sounds about the right kinda money for one.

The engine is still in the car, so that price will include anything and everything from under the bonnet that you'd want to take. The only thing i did ask is whether that price would include the ecu and they said yes, so presumably that'd be £295 for everything

what reg is the car do you rememeber if its X onwards there a good chance that its the 210bhp with vvti

I know of a cilo v6 engine going off the 406coupe club mark 1 so it 230ish ecu unlocked with all the ansineries ie altornatior waterpump ect... he want £500 quid for it same engine as the 210bhp v6 coupe just tuned differently.

No idea on the reg as they take the plates off before any vehicle goes into their yard. It looked like quite a late one but I don't really know that much about the 406 coupe!

I recall they had a Boxster.

A break only job that must have been rolled about a dozen times - If it's pilot survived I would have been amazed.

The advert optimistically said "airbags intact".

you dont want to go putting a d8 engine in a 205 the later d9 with the vvti is much better and the power deliver is much smother and more of a gradual build up rather than the earlyer one as it just thumps in at about 4k would cause a few problem i think due to a 205 being so much lighter

In my experience the D8 V6 engine has a very smooth power delivery right through the revs even in a 205. The D9 is more powerful but has to be run on an after market ECU. Lots more cost.

I have a D8 v6 in my 205 and it is nothing like you suggest, on what experiences do you base your opinion?

I concur, there is no 4k spike on the D8...

Has anybody modified these engines at all? I've searched everywhere but it seems nobody has really tried anything with them.

not a great deal has been done in a pug I doubt, but there are plenty of tuned Clio V6's!

DP engineering have done their "claw" manifold and downpipe for a single turbo.

i have a 406 v6 coupe and pug one off will do cams and a remap for 1700 ish apart from decat full sysytem air filter theres not much out there Stelth Systems do a 450bhp supercharger conversion nice way to spend 10k and there the "claw" would set you back about 5k 260bhp and 400 foot pounds of toqure i belive they say that will get you.

one of them in a 205 you wouldnt need to mod, the 406 coupe is a big car and a bit on the heavy side, in a 205 i think traction even in 3rd would be a problem with all the toqure. get the cilo map in it to get the extra 20 bhp and try finding something to keep up with you.

Traction problems in 3rd.

Getting the 'Clio map' is all that is needed for the extra 20 bhp.

Are these facts then?

Traction is no problem really, 1st has problems if you boot it, 2nd can loose traction depending on how you're driving, 3rd in less than good conditions can also lead to wheelspin, this is in my 306 estate v6, D8 engine.

year it is just the maping thats different im on the 406 coupe club and its a topic thats been alot and TBH there no pint in spending the silly money on the v6 engine if your gonna do it get the later d9 engine as power delivery is much smother and better mpg too, i have heard a few bad things about pug one off and they seam to be the only one really doing anything for the engines.

or get the cilo engine in the first place the mk 2 cilo v6 is up to 251 bhp and really who would want any more in a 205
