I did mine during the first drive round the block after the Mi16 transplant.

It happened right next to a bus-stop packed with kids heading home from school. They all laughed. I still feel the shame. :)

Been there although I still cant quite work it out, have concluded that I put the bonnet down right but the ring bits were the wrong side of the bonnet pin so eventually rattled loose.....

and that exact moment was when I hit about 60 during an acceleration test very late one night so everything went black as the bonnet was covering the screen, that shattered as not laminated and the noise OMG, initial thoughts were engine had exploded then panic then hard on the brake whilst looking out side window at the very faint white line in the middle of the road as I came to a halt. A few seconds earlier and I would have been on a bend.....

Quite a lot of blood from my legs and arms etc, drove it home, bit breezy (lol). Was still finding glass bits in it 3 years later!

One of my mates spent a fortune and ~2 years rebuilding and track prepping his beloved Corolla AE86. He finished it a couple of years ago. I think it was his second drive in it that the bonnet came up, smashed the screen and put a massive dent in the roof too. It's sat in his garage untouched ever since, it makes him sick to look at it.

My old 106 stage rally car still had the standard bonnet safety-catch in addition to the bonnet pins. Amazingly (considering I'm the most absent-minded person ever) I never needed it, but I thought that was a good plan. Obviously no use if you've replaced the bonnet with GRP/CF.

Always a good idea to keep the 2nd safety catch on when using bonnet pins. I'd like to say I did the same on mine but I didn't, it was already like that.

I've noticed that most people put the pins right near the outer edge of the bonnet on 205's as well. Is this considerd better (if so then why?) than having them as far inwards as possible without attaching them to the slam panel?

Same thing happened to me. I joined a dual carriageway and gave it some beans to overtake an HGV and BANG!! It took me a few moments to reallise what the f*ck was happening. I had harnesses on too which meant I couldn't duck down to peer under the bonnet either. How I managed to overtake the lorry, pull in and stop in a layby, I have no idea. God know's what the lorry driver must have made of it. :(

Sorry to hijack, but I had the catch pop off the bonnet once when going over a harsh speed bump, I'm thinking of getting bonnet pins as well as standard catch because i always worry when doing 70 on a dual carriageway that the bonnet will fling back. Are there any specific bonnet pins that are good etc ones to avoid lol.

Also I presume they are fully road legal?

Aerocatch ones look lovely and are probably the highest quality ones, but are also more expensive than your average bonnet pin.
