Starlet Glanza V Or Gtt Experience?

Recommended Posts

GLPoomobile

If it's a financially driven decision then I can see it going tits up :)

Will you be happy to keep it standard or will the mods start to creep in? How will your insurance premium change if you start modding? What about the costs if something goes wrong?

Don't get me wrong here Jap cars are against my morals but they make sense in a odd way?

Why what's wrong with them?

Personally I think jap cars are far better engineered than anything euro, and tbh I don't think I would buy anything non jap (certainly not french) again

As for starlets I like them and don't really see the chav connection, but they are a lot of money for what they are.

I'm with Tom. Round here all the young Asian lads have them with blacked out windows (wound down of course), no seatbelts on and a chav cannon on the back. Unfortunately they tend to spend more money on "wikkid" stuff than things like oil and a service (or even insurance I hazard a guess). The problem would be finding one that has actually been looked after as they are a stop gap for people and therefore money is not spent on them, so could be a money pit.

Look for a Polo G40 if you want something boosted and low road tax, but I guess these are not cheap now.

My Gf has a starlet and having driven it, I wouldn't buy one. They are quite quick but handle poorly and parts are not cheap. Build quality is superior to the 205 though, ( not hard I guess haha). They are quite common round here too. more so than the 205

If your willing to put abit of work into something a mitsubishi colt ,Then get yourself some evo running gear plus engine and its a bolt on conversion all fits .Just needs the prop cutting down .Trouble is finding an evo donor car cheap

But on the plus side it`ll be cheap tax and insurance :)

I keep thinking of selling my pug to buy a pulsar or an evo but cant quite bring my self to getting rid of the moneypit .Its no fun just driving cars got to be working on them aswell

I quite like the glanza good car and can be mod`d so they are ridulously fast but its the status you get with them as everbody else says boy racer mobele

What do you mean tits up, a bigger turbo and......

I see what you mean, the 205 may well stay but who knows only time will tell I guess.

What I mean is, it looks like a sensible prospect on paper - cheaper tax and insurance, and Jap reliability - but when it comes to the crunch you'll not be happy with the handling, and so then spend a fortune on suspension bits (and these aftermarket Jap parts are not cheap as I'm sure you know), then you'll get the urge to crank up the boost and it all sort of spirals out of control with lots of fancy and expensive whizz-bang products. And then of course your insurance is no longer so cheap either.

All hypothetically speaking of course :)

Turbos are lethal as a cheap bleed valve results in the biggest grin, followed by the saddest face and the emptiest wallet.

For cheap and fun, the Road Rally boys seem to rate the Protons. Mitsubishi running gear goes straight on too so even standard Evo stuff is an upgrade

If it's financially driven (this decision I mean), I wouldn't set my heart on anything inparticular.

You're insurance IMO is outrageous (over £90 per mth), so were I in your shoes, I would exchange the excitement you seem to crave from being different and going 'whoosh', to buying cheap bargains and driving them 'til they blow up.

You'll get loads of variety, and maybe even be lucky, finding something cheap, little and which goes on forever costing peanuts to run and insure. This way you may find something by complete surprise which you'd never considered and gives you tonnes of fun.

Old 5 series Beemers, a Metro, a Cavalier, Fiat or even a Lancia or Alfa. I think variety is the spice of life.

P.S. For God's sake PLEASE don't get a chav-mobile like you're suggesting - you'll regret it.

Argh don't get me thinking about an Evo conversion of some kind I definatly can't afford that luckily.

The thing with my 205 that's getting me down, I got in it the morning I was going to the airport buckled up my harness and drove then realised it just didn't feel like it used to when I got in it and that from here on in extra power and stuff that's going to make it magic again is all going to cost a hell of a lot of money, more money than I want to spend really.

Park it up and leave it for a bit buy yourself a cheap runn about then every now and again take it out then itll feel fast.I used to have a 1.1 metro given to me . Best fun ever i used to go out with my mates boy racering and they all used to get stopped for driving like idiots .I think the police must have felt sorry for me as i never got stopped once .I thrashed the living daylights out of it .And i never spent a penny on it .Was probably the best car ive had to this day .I lent it to a mate and it got take off him :) .Genuine 30.00miles aswell shame to see it squashed

I really want to keep it but at the same time I would like a change to something pretty nifty but cheaper all round. I have loads of dry storage space in the barn so the 205 could live there without bother. Really to fund another car the 205 needs to go as I don't want to hack into savings for no reason.

Can I legally get myself a traders policy though?

Thought about this loads now and I just don't think a Glanza V is for me. I have been looking for ideas all over the place but they keep coming back to impractical things like like RS turbo's, BMW E30 325 sports etc......

So I think I will do as suggested and buy a cheap run around and save up until I find something that my heart is truely set on.

I would probably look like a drug dealer driving it but I think this is the awesome,

I love E30's too but as they will be of similar age to a late 205 then I suspect you will still end up chasing problems around the car if used as a daily driver. I know they are better built than 205's they are still knocking on a fair bit.

Just my two penneth worth.....

Just looked at the MPG and that idea is now out of the window. It would be nice to get a nice one though as they seem to be appreciating, but there just to impractical for me.

I looked at getting the e30 318is, i think they call them the mini m3 as there really well balanced.

I bet there alot better on fuel as well being only a 1.8.

Im sure i read in ppc about some one who had supercharged one making over 200bhp of rear wheel drive fun

Right decision is made and it's going to be...............

The 205 has to stay and I'm going to find the motivation to finish it. There are just no cars out there than can give what I'm looking for so I'm happy to wait until my NCB goes up.
