Cracked Block?

Hi

 

My ongoing issue with low oil pressure after new oil pump, bearing, recon head leads me to beleive if I have a cracked block...

 

Could this be an issue on the MI engine? The engine was turbo'd before I owned it, making 350bhp...I am wondering if such a high power output could increase the chances of a block cracing and caausing low oil pressue.

a cracked block is more likely to lead to coolant issues than oil pressure.

 

did you try an o.e oil pump as suggested?

No - I did fit a brand new oil pump though...it was an FAI one. Surely the chances of having a poor oil pump are rare. especially as they are new?

also - would a weak oil pump produce poor PSI from start up and not just when the engine is hot?

as discussed in your thread linked there, aftermarket pumps tend to miss the mark in a pug, o.e is far more reliable.

 

 

the issue may not be highlighted until the oil is warm.

Well a cracked block - me thinking logically here - can only exhibit a few symptoms depending on where the crack is.

 

If it's in a water way (as WP's hinting at), you'll have coolant issues.

 

If you breach an oil way, you'll lose oil.

 

(Naturally you could breach between both of the above and see both symptoms)

 

Finally you could break a strengthening rib or casting which has a fixture in it, which will mean something will move like it shouldn't and cause other components to fail.

 

So what do you actually see? What leads you to conclude a cracked block? Is it only a low reading oil pressure gauge? If so, have you tried another? Are you losing any oil or getting oil/water mix (mayo).

What concluded me to think its a cracked block?

 

Well as I have changed everyting else.....I do use water, but no mayo, and not losing any oil.....

 

I work at a Peugeot dealer anyway...ordered an OE Peugeot Oil Pump....£234 including VAT to general public...I have managed to get for £160......Hope it bloody works...Getting one shipped over from Peugeot HQ in France next week!

Would it be too obvious to suggest that its just the sender/gauge at fault?

If you had a crack that was big enough to effect the oil pressure you would be losing oil at a noticeable rate.
