Going From A 1.9 To A 1.6

Recommended Posts

My 1.6 passed its Mot today with flying colours and only 3 advises, not bad considering its been stood around for over 2 years and has done 161,000 miles

I dug it out of my parents hedge on Wednesday and did a few bits and bobs to it. I had to change the fuel lines as a couple had gone hard and split, also I changed the wheels back to 1.6 wheels as my plan is to keep it as Peugeot intended. It is easily the most original 205 that I have ever owned, it has the little "shower hats" on the earth points under the bonnet and every clip that stops hoses and pipes etc rubbing seem to be in place, it even has the splash guards on the inner arches. I gave it a wash on Thursday and it came up really well, next on the list is a good polish and some grey plasticare. I also saved a tenner on my insurance compared to the 1.9 :P

I drove it to the Mot this morning and I was amazed at how nice it was to drive, its so responsive compared to my 1.9 and the manual steering is awesome, I even like the ride you get from the 14" balloon tyres, This is the first time I have driven a 1.6 since I got my 1.9 a couple of years ago and I'm loving it.

I'm seriously in love with this little car at the moment and I just want to keep driving it :D Unfortunately I can't drive it anymore until its taxed and that won't be until the beginning of next month.

I feel these cars get overlooked as most people want a 1.9, Does anyone else have love for the 1600 gti?

Sorry i have to say this but having advisories to me does not mean it passed with flying colours :D

Its good to see that even after stood for 2 years it can still cut the mustard :P

I love the way the 1.6 drives. Non power steering and a free reving engine with a slighty comfier ride on 14s. If I'm being honest I prefer the 1.6 but prefer the look of 1.9 with 15" wheels and half leather... Ultimately quicker as well.. Hardly owt in it though.

How did it do 161,000 miles in 2 years stood still?

;)

Seriously: this is proof that 1.6s are the daddy.....until you get the correct amount of valves.

;)

I think 1.6's are great. I have just bought a very standard 1.6 and can't wait to get it on the road.

They are nice and comfortable and the steering is much lighter etc.

Enjoy.

Just a bit of a follow up to my original post, I'm still loving the 1.6 and its revyness and have been using it daily for a couple of weeks now and seem to be getting much better mpg than the 1.9. I've been spending a bit of time giving it a general tidy up, using plasticare to do the bumpers, fitting original spec spotlights and have also fitted some nice condition half leather seats as the 1.6 seats are in need of an overhaul. For the first time in over 10 years that I have done a proper valet on one of my cars and I'm quite pleased with the results-

I also love my 1.6

Its full stock, 1985 model with 120 000KM on it.

I do wish it had some more power. Im always cruising with friends and they all have faster cars (Volvo V40 T4, Toyota Supra and stuff).

So I'd like to make my car a bit faster.

And then do something about the slop in the gearbox, already changed the gearlinks but there is at least 4cm's of slop in every gear :-S

All in all I adore the car.

Havent driven a 1.9 yet so I dont know how they compare tough . . .

I have a 1.9 at the moment but stuck the 1.6 engine i had from my old D reg in it, for some reason I found the 1.9 a bit pants but it could of been to do with the motor.

I guess Im trying to say I also love the 1.6 and yours looks great! :D
