All Praise The GTI

all the usual stuff but some particulars:

check if and when belts done? clutch? hg?

beam for same issues as a 205:camber/seized/dodgy hadling and funny noises-beam mounts knock?!

play in front wishbones?

engine service history? non tapper?!

electrics: in doors-window regulators? rear wiper? side mirrors?

could carry on but you get the idea.... its french just slightly newer then a 205

And with 144k on the clock I'd be looking to get it at handy money. Was gonna go for one of these a few months ago. A 98 with average miles was between 1200 - 1500...

But as above on bits to check. Probably best avoiding - dare I say it, boy racer spec ones. Lower than a snakes balls, big wheels and tints.

Cambelt needs replacing every 30-40k miles. The air con probably won't work. Check for tapping etc.

The engines are good for 200k+ so wouldn't worry too much about the milage. (providing it has service history). I'd be wanting to pay around £800 for if it was in fair condition. Good cars though, some days i quite miss my 306 rallye but it was rather dull compared to the 205.
