Painting A Car With A Roller?

Recommended Posts

tdr_1976

Has anyone here Painted a car with a roller, if so, what was the result like?

A mate is thinking of doing it to his road rally car, but I've never seen a car that's been painted this way.

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Cheers!

oz.

Quite a rough finish. There's plenty of examples on the retro rides forum.

If it's a rally car then meh

i did my engine bay in 2 pack bridge paint (30yr protection) with a small roller, its looks rough but should last a while that was the point.

wouldn't do the outside in it i dont think, but then its a rallye car so it dont matter

Get CalvinHorse to post a pic of his red 205 XS! He uses wattle and daub as body filler too :)

There was a guy on here from hereford who painted his car matt black with a roller, because it was matt black it came out quite well IIRC.

It depends how good you want it to look when it's done.

Some guy at college (few years below me) painted his Micra with a roller. the finish was awful and i reckon he would have gotten a better result if he had just lobbed a can of dulux at it.

If you thin the paint slightly and take your time, and then are prepared to spend plenty of time afterwards flatting and polishing it, you will be suprised how good you can get it to look.

The painters at work roll a lot of the paint jobs as they are not aloud to spray for h&s reasons and the work is to big to put in the booth, and they have mastered it to get a nice finnish. As Tom said thinning the paint helps :)

i roller primer at work and can get it on really smooth and even as the smoother it is the easier it is to rub down

iirc i did three coats which were thinned down a bit. from memory i think the worst bits were the seams, as i had to do these with a brush, and you could see the brush marks.

My old man has done a few cars with a roller and they have turned out very well . If you spend a lot of time flatting it after you can get a very nice finish.

The painters at work use foam rollers iirc.

I've painted a few boats with rollers and the results really can be excellent.

Foam roller, foam pad to lay the paint off with and some elbow grease to flat and polish once the paint has cured.

Thread 3: http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showfl...e=0#Post3493382

its' all the same thread but their board has issues when it gets to 80 pages...

the clef notes: http://carpainting.wetpaint.com/page/Rolle...yurethane+Paint

It's got all you need... when it transfers to the second thread is when they start working out the best processes and mixes... It's does with rustolium, tremclad, etc... paint.

This was painted with it, and cost under $50 USD:
