1.6 Abs Driveshafts?

Recommended Posts

cheesegrater

Hi, I need a new right hand driveshaft but my GTI has ABS, do I need a ABS driveshaft or is the ABS wheel part of the hub? Reason I ask is I can not find any ABS driveshafts and I don't want to buy the wrong one.

Cheers,

Tom.

ABS is part of the shaft, there's notches that go around the outer CV.

There's a sensor in hub aswell.

Lame, do you know of anywhere where I can get hold of one? Euros can only get hold of non ABS shafts. I'll have to cancel my order then :D

Ah...

Wanted post? Or do you want brand new?

I think a 1.9 ABS setup is obtainable from GSF in Whitley Reading. Mind you they are fecking useless.

I think the 1.9 ABS driveshafts woud be easier to get hold of but it's trying to get the hubs....

Ditch the ABS?

Out of interest did it work? Mine never did.

I'm pretty sure 1.6 ABS models have the same hubs and driveshafts as the 1.9 ABS

Yes, think so!

So any GTI 205 ABS driveshaft should fit?

the 1.6 and 1.9 abs wheel bearings are same so must be the same outer cv

Come to think of it, the ABS hub on my 205 was a 1.9 hub. even though it's a 1.6 gti.

Never crossed my mind

if its the outer CV you can replace them on their own, most motorfactors can supply them, around the £35 mark.

How the heck do you get them off Mei?

I remember giving it a go years ago but it didn't end well. Just had a big boo boo

It's the inner one unfortunetly, the one that goes to the engine mounted shaft.

swift tap with a copper hammer, job done

a big DOH if its the inner one though, although it is identical to the non-abs 1.9 shaft in that respect, as well as nearly any other XU engine (some 1.6's have a TU type inner joint with a metal sleeve) you could get a second hand 1.9 shaft an swap the tripod and inner shaft as far as I know.
