Silky 33 1 Cars Posted April 13, 2010 Myself and Alex (Boombang) are going to start fitting my 10pt OMP cage into my GTI this Sunday I have already sourced plenty of steel from a friend to make the box sections to mount the cage feet on. What I need to know from someone who has fitted one of these cages before is How many bolts will I need What length should I use What grade of steel I was going to get 50 nuts+bolts 12.9 Grade, would this be sufficient or too much ? (quantity + grade) What length do I need and do they need to have a shank on them at all ? Thanks Michael

Thanks Michael 14 bolts for the feet, 2 seatbelt bolts for the B pillars and some smallers bolts for infront of the windscreen. We used 10.9 so 12.9 should be plenty. I wouldnt get a shank as the foot it goes through is fairly thin, length wise I can't remember but it can be fairly long as it will just sit inside the box section, just makes it a pain to remove if you have to. Silky 33 1 Cars Posted April 13, 2010 Not as many needed as I thought then, my friend works next to a fastneners so I can ask him to get them for me. So going by that Jrod I could do with Quantity 30 M10 x 40mm length 12.9 Grade
joe1joe 3 Posted April 13, 2010 acording to the msa you can use m8 8.8 minimum, not sure if m10 slightly big for the original holes? surely m8 with a higher grade than minimum so where do the plates above the windscreen bolt to, or do you have to weld plates on?
