A Few Wire Plug Questions

Recommended Posts

Hiya Guys

I'm at the stage where I'm fitting the plugs from my looms to my fuse box, but I've got a few questions.

Firstly I have the rather long wire which comes from the engine bay loom (lights, heating, relays etc.)

Looking at the length of it it looks like it will go to the drivers side of the car but I've plugged everything in on that side. My first thoughts were it was for the ignition due to the thick green wire?! Any ideas?

Heres a picture of it

Next are some plugs from the loom which goes to the rear of the car. There is also a large white plug and yellow plug attached to this loom, but I know where they go.

Think i've found the place for the brown plug but the white and yellow ones are a mystery still.

Next is this orange plug which is connected to a metal strip? Any ideas? The white plug from the above picture would clip to this metal strip, not sure if its meant to though?

Next is the red plug which comes from the dash loom, there is no place for this to plug into the fuse box or any of the other looms? Is this for electric windows or something? I have another red plug which has 4 pins which is tucked near the back, I have the same problem with that one.

These next 2 pictures are to help me work out which brown plug i use

This picture shows 3 plugs which are from the dash loom and look to all fit

However i also have a brown plug from the rear loom which also fits the same hole as the picture above, however looking at the key of the plugs this one looks to fit better.

So if anyone can help me that would be great.

Thanks

have you got a haynes manual?

each wire is numbered, and each plug to the fusebox has a corresponding letter on the diagrams, you can cross reference to the diagram of the fusebox that shows the letters next to each socket.

the first plug is the engine loom, I guess yours is a late phase 1 or very early 1.5, it would usually go behind the heater box and be connected to the engine loom by the steering column.

I have somewhere, will have a look or will try and download a copy.

Well the loom is from a donor car and is a phase 1.5 so must have been an early one. My actual car is a phase 1 and the old loom I took out had the same long plug which when to the ECU.

I'm doing a Mi16 engine conversion so will I need this plugged into anything?

I've swapped the engine loom over because the phase 1 loom was lacking the brown plugs I needed for the conversion, plus i though it would make it easier.

Thanks again

if anything it makes it more complicated, that is the only brown plug you need to adapt on a phase 1 as you can use the rest of the wires as they are.

No way!! I've been asking and asking on here what to do and no one told me that!!

Well i have this phase 1.5 loom in the car now. So can i still adapt this plug to work with my mi16?

Plus i have a mi16 loom ready to go in which has already been converted for a 205, it has a link loom with the brown plugs on, which attach to the brown plugs on my dash loom.

These brown plugs surely connect everything the Mi16 loom needs and would also get all my dials work properly etc. Or do i need to use this other plug too?

Thanks

Miles

As above the phase 1 is the easiest to convert, the link loom way is about the worst and most have been badly done, Sorry not to give you good news.

But the top plug is something to do with the Rev counter as it's got a green sheilded cable, most fuse box plug's only fit in one hole, Just do the easy ones and then the rest should come together with the wire numbers

Oh well, looks like i'm doing it the hard way. I've been trying to figure this out for months and i find i make good progress then fall over again.

I still have the old phase 1 loom so maybe i could go back to that one.

The whole reason i swapped things around was because i changed my dash from a phase 1 to a newer phase 1.5 and thus needed a new dash loom.

I then searched and read allot of guides on here about the mi16 conversion and heard about these brown multiplugs under dash. Because my engine loom (still phase 1) did not have these multiplugs i searched through newer 205's cars to find an engine loom with the brown plugs thinking this would help.

However as the car stands I have the following:

Phase 1.5 engine loom i.e lights, shunt box, radiator etc

Phase 2 or 1.5 dash loom (due to swapping out my old phase 1 dash for a phase 2)

Mi16 Row 2 Loom and ECU with a converted link loom to connect to my 205 loom.

................................................

I've plugged everything into the fuse box from the loom that comes from the rear of the car, the engine loom and the dash loom.

I found a picture on here with the fuse box and its corresponding letters and have then tried to use the Haynes manual to identify with some success.

I have a few plugs left that would not plug into the fuse box. The red one in the picture above and 2 brown plugs

1 brown plug is from the engine loom 5 pins with wires (some are in the same pin hole)

37, R1, R0, 1B, I1, 55 and M6

The other brown plug is from the dash 6 pins with wires

16A, M40, 35, 13B, 16 and 25

................................................

So what to connect to the 2 brown plugs connected to the mi16 link loom?

Firstly the long wire with plugs (top photo)

this has wires

46A, 32, 76 and a black and green wire both joined to the thick shielded green wire.

................................................

Now from my phase 1.5 engine loom i have 2 brown multi plugs and from my dash i have 2 brown multiplugs and i assume if i was hooking this up as a normal 205 engine these would plug together. Also looking at the wire numbers most seem to match up too.

Brown plugs from the 1.5 engine loom

7pin plug

1 30

2 N/A

3 30

4 N/A

5 grey wire (can't see number)

6 55A

7 30A

9pin plug

1 N/A

2 orange wire (no number) and 112

3 47B

4 N/A

5 7A

6 N/A

7 47

8 69A

9 2 Thick black wires (no number)

Brown plugs from the 1.5 or 2 dash loom

7pin plug

1 30

2 47M

3 30A

4 N/A

5 47A

6 55A

7 cant make it out (red wire)

9 pin plug

1 75A

2 112

3 47B

4 74

5 7A

6 73 with T21 also written on it

7 47

8 69A

9 69

....................................................

The link loom has the following wires (this mi16 loom and link loom was taken out of a working converted 205 with mi16 engine)

9pin plug

1 52 reverse light switch

2 53 reverse light switch

3 47 Coolant Temp Light Switch

4 47 Coolant Temp gauge

5 7A Alternator

6 30 Oil Temp

7 30A Oil Pressure

8 30B

9 2A big red wire

6pin plug

1 no wire

2 76 Fuel pump

3 Earth

4 112 Tacho feed

5 no wire

6 Starter Solenoid

Now i can find 2 plugs that fit to these plugs both coming from the 1.5 or 2 dash loom

6pin plug mentioned at the start of this post (the one i could fit into the fuse box)

1 16A

2 M40

3 35

4 13B

5 16

6 25

and the 9 pin plug

1 75A

2 112

3 47B

4 74

5 7A

6 73 with T21 also written on it

7 47

8 69A

9 69

looking at the wire numbers on the mi16 link loom and these from the dash there are similarities but they appear to mixed up between the plugs. Can i just simply swap them around but uncoupling the plug moving them and coupling the plug back together?

If i did this then i would be left with a the 7pin plug connected to the 1.5 or 2 dash loom

1 30

2 47M

3 30A

4 N/A

5 47A

6 55A

7 cant make it out (red wire)

which will only plug into the 1.5 engine loom brown plug

1 30

2 N/A

3 30

4 N/A

5 grey wire (can't see number)

6 55A

7 30A

I know its allot of info but i'm constantly going around in circles with this. I feel i have everything i need just need a few pointers to get to the end.

Thanks guys
