Can Someone Double Check This?

Recommended Posts

pugpete1108

got to maplins and picked up some bits today:

the guy (and me for that matter) was unsure on the wattage for the zener diode (he gave me a 1.3w i think)

can anyone who has done this have a look and double check i have done it right?

well if it matches the diagrams and the component list it should work...

i went by the bottom diagram, havent seen the top one.

it does say 5w zenner on the top one and he gave me 1.3w, will that be ok?

IIRC the zener I've used was 1.3w from Maplins as well, worked fine :)

The ones I got were red and much smaller.

sweet, will get it wired in tomorrow and see if it works....fingers crossed

just hoping i have the correct wire going into the tacho, i went for the light blue/green sheilded one?

all i did was give the bloke the diagram and he sorted the components out cos i didn't have a clue what i was looking for

That's the bugger yes, wire 112 off the top of my head.

right i wired this in today and guess what it doesn't work grrr

i have wired the two inputs to the coil trigger wires a and b near the coil.

the resistor (is polarity an issue with these?) has gone to engine earth.

the tacho output goes to wire 112 at the tacho (the one that splits and goes to the ecu and coil)

i have a voltage coiming from the mod when cranking but the dial doesn't move at all

i have checked the other wire that comes out of the tacho (yellow one no number) which i presume is earth? and i have 80ohms resistance to earth, would this be the cause for it not working?

the red is going to the tach mod. which was previously joined to the two green sheilded wires

the yellow is the twin input from the coil/ecu

but where does the blue one go? is it earth? or something else?

The original wiring on the tacho plug is power to the bottom pin (your yellow wire), earth to the second wire (black/ green) & tacho signal to the third (black).

This attachment shows it from when I was making the converted tacho's / getting it to work in my car with MP3.1 in this topic.

cheers graham, i have just double checked and i found 32b on the yellow which would be +ve so black would be earth and green/blue would be tacho signal

i'm sure one or both of the originals are not connected i'll check when i finish nights.

sorted it out guys, the black was an earth just not a connected one  , i guess when i removed the ign amp i disconnected it.

i ran a new earth today and the rev counter now works  , for some reason it doesnt show revs when cranking but is fine when running??

still happy days.

It'll only flicker minutely imo when cranking but mine doesn't crank for that long anyway to be particularly noticable.

Depends how soon from seeing TDC signal to actually firing up the engine is, as soon as there's TDC signal you get spark, not before.

If my logic is correct it'll take up to one crank revolution till the ecu knows when to fire spark.
