2l 8v Turbo Upgrades As Very Smokey

hi there im wondering if anyone can help sorry if it been discused many times before but between a dodgy wireless dongle and having to go uni. to use the search panel i gave up an am asking for help on a turbo as i recently got a 205 with a 406 turbo engine inside and we smoking quite a bit on idle there no middle box but i belive it to be turbo seal if not ill try stem valve seals and piston rings but for now the turbo and rather than put a standard one back on well an xm turbo which i already have i was thinking of trying to put a t3 on is it possible and what work is needed also what parts?

Hi. It sounds like the turbo seals to me too. You cannot bolt any bigger turbos to the standard manifold as it is specially designed for that one. You would also need a mappable ECU to get the best out of any turbo upgrade. DP engineering do manifolds that would allow a T3 etc, also there are Turbo Technics ones that will fit too. Standard turbos are often very expensive new

hey ok so are the tt ones on ebay ok and also any ideas on second hand t3 escort rs turbo? nissan 200sx? that will be good for the job of around 220bhp ish i can sort out mappable ecu and mappig just was worryed about mani and t3 clearence. thanks for repli

you can put different compressor housings on the std tb25 turbo, i have made a hybrid allowing a quick spool and loads of flow! as you need to rebuild the turbo might be worth looking into!

why does it need mapped? If you stick under the ECU limit of 1bar the MAP sensor should accomodate the turbo ok no?

 

I had wild problems with smoking too mate, was the turbo. Got it rebuilt with a 360 bearing and uprated seals etc and it seems 100% now.
