206 Hdi Problem

Recommended Posts

EdCherry

Not sure really where to put this, so feel free to move it if I've put it somewhere wrong.

206 1.4 HDi 2002

Basically on the way home yesterday I got ANOTHER noise

Only when throttle open

Louder when on boost (1.9k+ RPM)

Never really worked on diesel's, let alone any turbo cars. To me it sounds like a boost leak or blowing exhaust.

My PAS pump bearing's have gone, and did like a year ago which gives a nice whine, yet to replace it. Bottom pulley looks a bit unbalanced and the tensioner above it is moving alot, again another posibility?

Not a belt rubbing as I can happily take the car to 3krpm and close the throttle, then the noise disappears.

Please help me, suggestions for what to look at!

Nah nothing up on the dash to indicate any faults (No EML) but I cant check unless I get back to college, and personally dont want to drive it the 58 miles there with the problem.

Does seem to be a slight lose in power, although this could be a mind game.

Have you tried going around all the intake pipes with a can of WD-40 and checking for leaks? I did notice the whine last time i drove it, it sounded like the turbo was on it's way out.

Well I went over the car quickly today.

Heatshield off the manifold and cat, checked for any holes or leaks but couldn't find any.

Battery out, servo vac pipe checked as I had a feeling it might of been this, the connector at the servo end moves around alot but all the pipes are tight and no holes that I can see.

Inlet pipes off up to turbo, including airbox, only one short rubber hose between the turbo and inlet manifold, rest of it is ally or plastic. Round cylinder 1 inlet (Flywheel end) where it goes in to the head there was quite a bit of oil, but I cant find a way to remove or even get close to seeing it (used a camera in the end to have a look but still not very good).

Really am lost with this, tempted to put it into a garage, give them a wedge of cash (which will put me into even more debt) and get them to fix everything. I got 4 days left at college, which means covering 400 miles and alot of work to complete still for thursday (which I have to be there to do!) these things come to test us, f***ing peugeots.

if its nothing obvious in the intake tracts (no i/c is there? ) and all the rotating ancillaries seem fine it could be an EGR solenoid issue, a valve beign stuck open in the exhaust or intake would give a power loss and strange noises possibly.

No I/C on the 206 bar the 1.6 HDi.

Did think of EGR but havn't a clue where it is or how I go about checking it.

Rotating ancillaries I reckon could be the problem, but the noise would be there constantly even if the throttle is closed surely?

woodsy

The crank pulleys on these engines are very common to go as the bonding breaks.Ive fitted loads of these but when they go it usually causes a rattle type noise.Maybe worth checking

Well after the garage thinking it was O rings on the inlet manifold I started to strip it down to fix this. Got to the stage just about to remove the inlet and found the ECR recirc pipe had a nice crack and hole at the flange, pretty sure this is the problem but havn't fixed it yet to say for definate.
