Fuel Consumption.

hi l was wanting to know if anyone else is using alot of fuel,

was on the motorway the over day an at 70mph l was doing 4500rpm, is this normal?

 

also does anyone have any good ideas on how to make it not use so much!

I use alot of fuel, I do alot of driving.

 

An idea to use less would be to not drive as much, or change up?

In the last 7 days Ive put £78 worth of super through the 205 and £50 fuel in the 306, does that counts as alot

 

What engine and box do you have? that does sound rather high rpm to be doing at 70mph

If i recall right my 1.6 does 80mph at 4000rpm if that helps? Does seem like to eat through fuel though but maybe thats just my driving!!!

 

Will maybe return 350 miles to full tank, costing around £38 from reserve to full! Not sure if this is similar to others, would like to know how it compares!

l've got a 1900 8v engine am not sure what gearbox l've got. does sound like a lot of fuel your using..

When I drive my 205 I don't worry about the fuel economy, it is for fun.

 

When I drive my TDi Audi, THEN I can worry about fuel consumption, although it seems to do 500 miles per tank more or less regardless how I drive it.

i put £50 (97 ron) in my 1.9 8v, and get about 190 miles from it but i dont know if thats good or bad. people say they can smell fuel if they follow me so i presumed mine was running rich, althou there no signs of running rich on the spark plugs.

Mine was doing the same, the joiner pipe from the filler to the tank neck was rotted, going in to pug monday to have the newun fitted, as I need the car for monday evening.

Feck, my 88 1.9 is averaging about 22mpg at the minute. I really think it needs looking at!

My '99 1.9 Cat gives me between 27 and 32mpg, even if I hoon it everywhere I go!!

Just out of interest, what sort of mileage should I be seeing out of my xs daily driver?

 

I seem to get about 300 miles out of a tank, that usually takes £45 to fill. Don't know if thats good or bad, thought I might have got more out of it? I've been meaning to get it plugged into a gas meter and have a fiddle with the carb mixture and check the ignition timing too.

It might be time to check your ECU temp sensor or at least make sure it's plugged in.

Where abouts is it Simon as it wouldn't suprise me. During the summer it was around 25-32mpg, then the cold comes in and it drops severely. PM if necessary mate

Pointless really trying to work out consumption from money spent....to get an accurate figure you need to fill it (to the brim so to speak) each time & divide mileage covered by gallons (divide litres by 4.546) consumed. My CTi (1.6) generally does around 32mpg. Suburban driving can bring it down to 24-28. Long drives I can get 35-36mpg. Weird thing is, on the continent, the car will do 37-39mpg on long drives, and 34-36mpg for general driving. Just as well...am in Italy at the moment & Shell V-Power works out at around £1.50 a litre!

i get no more than 24mpg around town but its got the superchip ecu thinking of changing it back tomorrow to standard now Ive got more used to the car and can deal with the potential kangaroo hopping.

Funnily over here you can use money to get a good enough reading as a tank of fuel (£45-£50) is pretty much 45 litres, which is pretty much 10 gallons, so you just need to divide your miles achieved in the tank by ten. i.e. my 250 miles is about 25MPG

 

I hate the price of fuel in this country.

 

Inerestingly mid 20's MPG does actually seem to be the norm for non-cat cars then? (1.9's)

 

I'm getting idle issues at the moment and i am working through the possible causes and have reached the temp sensor that is being replaced tomo so we will have to see if that improves my MPG.

My last tank in the 205 saw me average just under 30mpg, but thats with 3.0 gas guzzling litres of engine and a lot of heavy footed driving! Last tank in the Focus saw 61.4 mpg - a very boring 600 miles!

Hmmm... the now-dead road car (1.6 standard but fairly fresh engine) regularly got >35mpg. The rally car (also a 1.6, near standard engine) which does run rich still gets nearly 25mpg on road sections and 15mpg on stage. Some figures posted here do seems quite low

I'm gonna get my friggin' thing to a specialists as it was 35 litres to 160 miles (20.7 mpg) yesterday when filling up

In my standard non-cat 1.9 I get about 31mpg in the summer and closer to 29mpg at this time of year.
