Negative Camber Rear Beam

Recommended Posts

edbar

Do the xsara hubs remain or do i need to fit the 309 hubs for the rear brakes etc? Got a set of xsara vts trailing arms to build a negative camber rear end on the 309 so i want to know if anything needs modifying to cope?

Thanks

Edd

Only the ZX arms have 1.2 negative camber with almost zero toe when lowered. The VTS ones have 0.5 toe with

around the same camber.

Most people like to have negative camber and no toe using ZX arms for the 205, its all down to personal preferences really.

Do a search as there are loads of threads with the ins and outs of both types of arms.

Ride height makes no difference to toe at the rear.

Ed I have used Xsara arms on my car. You can reuse the Xsara hubs/bearings etc, just means you need to use 306/Xsara rear discs (these are slightly different offset).

Or you can swap over to the 205/309 type rear hubs, and the associated discs. I reused the Xsara stuff as it was in good condition.

It does add toe, it adds very little that its not really noticeable.

A few posts on this subject.

ZX arms have no toe whatsoever, which is why it doesn't change greatly when lowered a LOT though they do have a fair amount of camber compared to other Peugeot/Citroen beams.

The Xsara arms because of the amount of toe they have, will have a slight variation in toe/camber but nothing great, as the arms reach full travel it'll change towards less toe, but by the time you notice the effect at all you'll be on the bumpstops.

with your 309 being 1989, it may well have the earlier tow settings of 0.50 camber and 3.80 Toe in, later arms have 1.15 Deg of camber and 5.0 toe, in which case there's be no great advantage to fit the Xsara arms as they're at 1.20 and 5.0 toe for VTS, and 4.5 toe for others.

As Tom mentioned, you can use the Xsara hubs fine as long as you use the Xsara discs due to their offset, however as the wheels are further out, you may have issues with the wheels catching the arches if you want to run it very low as in my experience even a standard 309 beam and a fairly chunky 195 will rub slightly on a 309.

Have you got a set of optical tracking gauges, and have you measured toe at various different ride heights?

Because I do, and I have.

So still want to tell me I'm wrong??

The ride heights make a change that is not measurable so irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, Tom is correct.

Great that'll be a saving at least.

What genuine number are the discs? Are they the 257mm?

247 if I remember right. All Xsaras and 306's with rear discs use the same rear disc. Size wize the same as the 205/309 rear disc, just a different offset.
