Front Bumper Red Strip Renewal.

Recommended Posts

MerlinGTI

New front bumper red strip going on tomorrow, already done the sides ages ago, was nice and easy.

I couldnt get any clips for the front bumper strip (B/O) and so before I attack the task in hand I would like to know what the clips look like and how they attach. Just to save me from breaking any and to save time (Its coooollllld )

Any help / pics (espicially pics) would be grand please

I've the same issue, I can't get my strips out! I need to colour code them. Do they just pull out?

you need some pliers to get them out without braking them, squeeze the clip and push them through from the back of the bumper

or just smash the old ones off and buy new

The entire process is an absolute doddle.

To remove the trim, you literally just pull it off, as the clips shouldn't be so tight that they put up any fight. Just stick a screwdriver (perhaps put some tape over the end so as not to scratch anything) under the trim and lever it up carefully. It'll either pop off the clip, or the clip will come out of the bumper attached to the trim. Once you have a bit prised out, work around the trim pulling the rest off, but take care not to bend the trim.

To re-fit, you slide the clips in to the trim from either end (don't try to push them into place, you must insert them at the end and slide them around). Once they are all inserted, space them out at roughly the right place on the trim, then put it up against the bumper and start to push each clip in to it's hole. It's handy to have an other person to hold the other end of the trim as you do this.

All a piece of piss, but does require care.

As said here, it couldnt of been any easier :) No clips broke and they were surprisingly plyable for 20 year old bits of plastic.

Took about 30 seconds, cost £12 and really helped freshen up the front end.

Thanks again  Special ta to mickie for the pic :)

I found the red trims respond really well to T-Cut & wax polish....literally change colour. Worth trying before buying new trims...unless old ones dented/bent beyond easy repair of course.

Mine was absolutely peppered in dents, stone chips probably.
