Second Fan

Recommended Posts

Alan_M

Spent the later part of the afternoon/evening installing a second fan.

Quite easy really.

Managed to squeeze the fan in without removing the shroud etc. Picked up a fused relay from Halfords, along with some crimps and 27amp/5amp wire.

One side of the fan goes to earth, so i robbed the proper connector off my old 1.6. The other side goes to the relat contact in 27amp wire. The other side of the contact goes to a ring crimp on the battery.

Trickier bit comes to the switch. One side of the coil goes to earth. Other side goes to a switch via 5amp located in the centre console. If using the same sort of connector as the Hazards etc, then the 5amp wire from the coil goes to 'F' or 'B'. The other side of the switch, either 'f' or 'B' goes to the battery.

The packaging that the relay came in had a little diagram on the back.

Plugged it all in, double checked everything and reconnected battery.

Pushed button, and the fan kicked in, on high speed too.

Took it for a spin, pulled into a garage so i could fill up for Saturday's drive to North Wales, and noticed the temp had risen a bit towards 90 so it was fan time. Bloody Hell. It drops like a stone!

Very happy now. A job well done, looks quite neat too although i'll have to get one of the 5 hole centre console bit of trim.

It should get a good test tomorrow, as i'm going upto N.Wales for camping/BBQ/drive about the roads. SHould be good!

Nice 1

I was much more lazy with my installation, I could not be bothered wiring in the second fan to a switch so I just installed a relay that switched when the fist fan came on, that way they both kick in at high speed when the water temp rises above the 4th line on the dash (low temp switch) and will click off again when it drops below it again.

When stuck in traffic they are generally on for about 60 seconds, off for 60 seconds, on again, off again etc :D

Seems to work ok but they are quite loud!

Nice guide. Did you use a switch that matched the hazards, if so where you get it from?

I want to do the same for mine. Cheers

I used the switch for the Hazard lights. Any of them will do!

U can buy the 5 hole trim from Peugeot. The continent cars needed them for air con etc.

C_W has one and Phyr i think. I have'nt bought one yet so my alarm L.E.D. is hanging about at the mo!

If you pull the 3 hole trim off, there are 5 square holes behind it.

Its an easy install. Give us a shout if your stuck.
