Water Leak 205 Xs

Recommended Posts

tdr_1976

I spotted a water leak yesterday, coming from the alloy housing behind the engine.

Because it's in a crappy place, I cant see if its the gasket or the housing thats leaking. Is this a common problem on the TU3's?

As far as I can see, there's only two blots holding it on?

Just wanted some info before I go diving in to remove it!

Cheers

Theres 4 bolts holding the housing on, 2x 16mm headed bolts and 2x 13mm headed bolts. Theres a o-ring seal behind it which could have perished:

Do I have to remove the top engine mount to remove the housing?

Yes you will, you can support the engine with a jack and a block of wood under the sump.

Ah, Ok, are there any problems that can arise?

Just so I know that there might be a possibility of things going pear!

Cheers!

Well you could snap off a bolt head, that would be a pain in the arse. The plastic distribution pipe could snap, also a pain as you will have to replace it and they corrode in to the alloy housing taking ages to remove. You could strip a bolt thread in the block so the housing won't seal properly and you'll be back to square one. I could go on and on but just work carefully and you'll be fine.
