Rallye Engine Stopped Working?

Recommended Posts

GTI6BOY

Was driving along when the engine died.

Pulled to the side of the road and tried to turn it over, but it wont fire

Had a little play around and i cant get a spark

I have tried a brand new coil

With the ignition off i have 1 live to the coil, and with ignition on i have 2 lives and the other 2 read 2.0v? I thought i should have 3 lives and an earth?

Any ideas

I had this happen once, it turned out that the shaft inside the distributor had snapped so the rotor arm wouldn't turn. The ignition system on the TU engines are pretty simple so it shouldn't be hard to trace the fault.

Rotor arm was turning

just been to my local motor factors and purchased a ignition module for £35 and the car fired straight up

I also need a new ignition amplifier, but I have 2 choices, 5 or 7 pin. Anybody know which one I need for my Rallye? Otherwise I'll have to go home and check!

My Rallye died in full flight on the motorway once. Revs just droped and it wouldn't start. The only time it ever failed me.

It also turned to to be the ignition module.

If you watch the rev counter (if you have one) then it should flicker when the engine is turned over. If it doesn't then its probably your module
