Ovalled Hubs

My steering has always felt a bit wandery, I have a feeling it may be an ovaled hole in the hub.

 

I know people normally just swap to good ones but it got me thinking.

 

Has anyone ever tried getting the hole machined out and then used a suitable sized and more durable insert?

I have enlarged the gap before so that you can tightened the bolt a bit more to clamp the pin better.
