Few Teething Probelms With Mi16

Recommended Posts

A2TheA

just got my newly installed mi16 back into my posession ;) a couple of things which i hoped you could help me with:

1. the oil pressure gauge is not working.

- when the ignition is on but the engine not, the pressure gauge shoots right over to 'oh my god i cant take it any more' pressure, but when idling the pressure reads zero. <- needle doesnt move from the most left it could possibly be.

2. i have no temperature gauge either.

- the car is over fueling big time also so i have a feeling the temperature gauge has something to do with this. (ecu is ready 'cold' therfore dumping fuel into the engine)

so...

where is the oil pressure gauge on the 1.9 mi16?

also which is the wire for the temperature gauge on the dash.

and is there anything you may know about how to over come these symptoms?

can anyone shed any light on this for me please?

p.s. it sounds awsome i cant wait for the head to bed in a little and give it some :)

Thanks

Aaron

1 - you've got your oil pressure switch and gauge wires mixed up

2 - No temperature guage means you've either not connected the wire, the wires is broken somewhere, or you've got the wires mixed up again (probably switch and guage wires the wrong way around

3 - If it's overfuelling you've probably not got the ECU temp sensor connected, or going on a common theme here, it's connected to the wrong wires. You've probably mixd up the connections with the ICV as that uses the same type of plug.

where would i find the ecu temperature sensor?

and the sensor on the back of the engine (if taken out is a long pipe type thing)

ECU temp sensor is on the thermostat housing - it's a blue two pin plug.

and the sensor on the back of the engine (if taken out is a long pipe type thing)

That's the oil level sensor - not used on 205 Mi16 conversions.

thanks Anthony. hmm my blu plug is attached already with a two pin connector :D so a break in the circuit somewhere you think? and do you reckon that is why it is chucking fuel into the engine?

i have got a couple of weeks with spare time now so hopefully i can identify and eliminate this over fueling.

ok my blue plug is broken, what would be the best way of getting around this?

the blue plug is connected to the blue sensor on the side of the thermostat housing.

Just go to a breakers and 'take' one.

3-6" of 'pig tail' snipped off and join the wires. Job jobbed.

ok so i got the car warmed up and went out to test the bonnet reenforcement i have recently carried out. (Which was a success :-))

I managed to temporarily fix the temp plug which showed up with my engine temp on dash which is good. But now knowing the temperature of the engine the ecu is still chucking in way too much fuel. As a guide like i have just about covered 100 miles with a full tank me fuel. So its over fueling like a good'n. I bought a working afm from someone so i shouldn't have thought it was that.

Help. :-(

The sensor for the temp gauge and the ECU are two totally separate things...

i just found that out :( but thanks.

do you know where i can get another 2 pin sensor from?

i will be going to the scrappy next week for the plug with a tail of wire on it so i can chnge that.

Test the one off your old 8v engine just to see if that is at fault but you can check the resistance of the sensor to see if it is dead.

Have you downloaded the caps program?

Graham.
